I do not speak Irish Gaelic but I've been and still am trying to learn Scottish Gaelic. Came upon this video and find it very very interesting. Some things I understood and it was so nicely presented. Very clear speech, easy to follow. Thank you so much. I'll watch more of your videos. Hello! Can you make a video on how to say “Erin Go Bragh”, there are no videos on how to pronounce this correctly. Thank you!

I'm in the middle of trying to learn my native language, and I am totally confused with some of the words in this particular video and I'm 100% sure it's my lack of understanding. But, my confusion? The word 'Because' which I've learned up to now is 'Mar'. Then there are other words like 'Bron', which I have thought meant 'sad' or 'sadness'. Please settle my determined mind and teach me the why I'm seeing things differently or is it a thing that I am still way behind in my efforts to learn Irish. Great vid by the way.

why cant gaelic be written like in english? would make things much easier. or simply switch to a phenotic script as the alphabet?

@@BitesizeIrish okay i have 2 questions regarding your answer: 1) has gaelic the same problem as british english in that the spelling is stuck in the 14th century whereas the pronunciation changed? or has gaelic always been written in an unnecessarily complicated way that doesn't actually match the letters it uses in pronounciation? e.g. was "glè mhath" spelled and pronounced like "gle wah" back in the day or more like "gle math"? if the spelling never matched the pronunciation anyway, why not make the spelling easier? then we wouldnt sacrifice the authenticity of the language.

Siobhan, the video highlights the innate musicality of Irish, the English sounds absolutely flat in comparison. Really well done.
