DO NOT USE YOUR CELL PHONE TO RECORD THE ECLIPSE. The light can damage the sensor on your phone. What you can do is use the same filter that is used for your eyes during the eclipse and hover it over your camera so you can record.

That's what I'm doing! I have solar glasses that fit over my prescription glasses, and I'm using the film from a cheap pair of paper folding glasses to cover my phone camera! Easy to set up and protects your equipment! ❤

No it does NOT. As long as you’re not sticking a zoom lens in front of your phone, it’s safe. You're probably thinking of DSLR cameras which have larger lens which can damage its sensors due to heat compared to a phone camera that has a small one. There's a reason why they're designed for daily use and you walk them daily with its sensor exposed in broad daylight yet it doesn't degrade.

One of the safest way to see the total eclipse is by using hole on a piece of cardboard. You can see the eclipse by looking at the "shadow" of the eclipse, not directly on the eclipse.

Literally. 🧍‍♂️ I stared at the sun a few times w regular sunglasses on or just with my naked eye. And I was fine. Only downside is the last time I did it (last month) I started seeing different colors on the street which freaked me out 😭 so no more of that for me. Solar Sunglasses are definitely In use here

the problem with the eclipse is that differently from staring at the normal sun, when our eye automatically squints to protect itself from the light, the solar eclipse blocks most of the visible light so our eyes stay fully open as if it was night, leaving it vulnerable to the UV radiation mentioned in the video

You are insanely informative.

If you try to look into the sun, you have to squint; it's a reflex you can't really block out. And also, your pupils contract due to the visible light - all, to protect the eye. During an eclipse, it gets dark and there is less visible light, but there is still light, since the moon can't block it all. So, your pupils won't contract, and all the residual light, including tons of UV-rays, goes directly in the eye and can cause irreparable damage to it. So, yes, looking into an eclipse is worse than looking at the sun directly

For future reference: your phones camera light receptors can also be burnt by the eclipse, try putting the eclipse glasses overtop of the camera lenses instead to take pictures/videos

There are special eclipse glasses u can buy, and the radiation destroys any equipments cameras. Put the eclipse glasses on the cam for better view, and safe recording.

You don't faint if your eye gets taken out. Either you get injured or you literally die. Not everything makes you lose consiousness 💀

I've heard that as it gets darker your pupils might enlarge to let more light in, which means it's actually even MORE dangerous to look during the eclipse. That being said, according to NASA's website, you can look on their website yourself to verify, and please let me know if I'm wrong, there is a brief moment during totality that you can look without risking damage. Only during full actual totality, and that's only if you are actually along the proper path of totality, and the window is quite brief. I'd look up the info in advance and double check beforehand to make absolutely sure you know when it's safe and for how long. This video is the best advice to follow 99.99% of the time though, so unless you are absolutely sure, just follow this advice.

Thank you for that video. I love studying space and love to learn about space. The totality of the eclipse will be comeing right over America, Canada, and Mexico. This is rare as the next time it will happen is in 2044. Also even though the U.V light is dangerous, the sun will only be covered for a minute or two and the corona of the sun will not be completely covered. This means there is another problem. The light from the corona will be consentrated so the light will be 3x as much as it usually is. That being said, if you wear solar glasses, than the eclipse will be very fun. BTW dont use regular sunglasses. If you were solar glasses, make sure they say I.S.O aproved. Please give me a shoutout.

Or use solar eclipse glasses, the glasses are tinted soooo dark that you can look at a solar eclipse safely.
