How To Save A Lot Of Money Every Year By Saving Change & Dollar Bills

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello KZread. I usually show videos on how to make money scrapping, but today I thought I'd share another way to save. This is something my wife and I started 10 years ago when we got married. Just simply by putting your change in a jar & putting aside your loose $1 dollar bills you can have a nice pile of money at the end of the year to either save, treat yourself to something or like we do, use it to buy Christmas gifts for Family & Friends. I hope this tip helps all of you save more money. Thanks for watching. Please Like & Subscribe! Take Care.

I save my Ten dollar bills. Working I a restaurant I survive off tips so I use my ones, but I don't get Tens to often so I save those. So far I've saved up about 800 I will use it to buy myself a car.

If I could do it over again I would have looked into a Trade school of some kind. College wasn't for me and I didn't like a lot of the subjects. I always loved cars and wish I had gotten into that. Don't give up. Try to find something you like to do. The pay may be great at some jobs but if you not happy it's not worth it. Less pay for a job you love would be better. Take Care.

I'm 22 years old living with the folks, (In this day and age, it is almost a necessity for young people.) I work a dreadful minimum wage job but I am going to try and stick with it for another year. I have a 33.9 oz coffee container filled about 1/4 of the way with silver coins (nickels, dimes, quarters) already have over a 100 dollars saved in ones in a box in my closet, I also just started a $5 dollar bill box and a $20 dollar bill box also in my closet. I'm going to try and save as much as I can. This video gave me motivation to do so.

Thanks so much. Glad to help. Don't worry about the minimum wage job. You will move up quickly. When I started out I would do mowing on the side too and make good money on my weekends. Now I do Ebay & have a metal recycling business on the side of my regular 40 hour a week job. All you have to do is be motivated. I work 70 or more hour weeks but I'm making more that I ever thought I would. Take Care.

At your age you should be thinking about moving out. It's really important to get the experience of paying your own bills. It changed my life! I learned money doesn't grow on trees and it taught me the importance of being frugal. I'm 42 and have wasted over $100,000 buying new cars. I would never buy a new one again. I've had $20,000 in credit card debt too. It took almost 13 years now to get out of debt. Now all we have is a house payment. We now also have a large chunk in Roth IRA's! You need to invest in them. At your age you can put in $5,500 a year! If the interest rate is good you will be a millionaire in your 60's or earlier. Use some of the money to put a really nice down payment on a house of your own too. Then only get a 15 year loan. Pay extra on that loan as you go and pay it off in 10 years or less. Learn from my mistakes. Have a Merry Christmas. Take Care.

I learned that from my Dad years ago. He saved all his change and that was our vacation food money. Dad worked for Brinks back in the 40's and handled thousand of dollars in change everyday. I think that made an impression on him. Thanks Dad and thank you for sharing it with others.

You are so welcome. In my opinion past generations had to struggle for so much more and knew the meaning of saving money. Today, everyone fell into the have it now, pay later scheme and it's just burring folks in debt. I learned myself 10 years ago what it felt like to have 20,000.00 more in credit debt. It took years to pay it off working 60 to 70 hour weeks. We got out and will never go back. I appreciate your comment. Take Care.

I was like that! So what hubs and I did was.. Every Sunday we would go into our bank logs and look at every transaction made. Say day 1 we spent $9.03 at Starbucks, save $0.97; Walmart $42.64, save $0.36.. and so on for the whole week. We would add up all of those numbers and say for example it equalled $23. We would transfer that from our checking to savings. Every month we ended up with about $100 extra. So by the end of the year, we had about $1,200 to spend for the holidays. It was nice being able to pick up the bill for family dinners and buy gifts without feeling money pressure. (Also great knowing that it was just “change” we were saving. So it really didn’t feel like losing much lol)

we have $1 & $2 coins here, I don't carry change in my pockets, every night I put the change in my bucket, once the bucket is full, I take it to the bank, I use the automated coin counter at the bank, then hand the teller the recept to deposit into my account. and its a free service for me! money sitting in a bucket or your pocket is dead money! its loosing value everyday due to inflation. put it to work. a dollar extra in my mortgage could save me one thousand dollars in interest. on my home.

Thank You Ashley for the kind words. Try to link to Google so I can respond to your comments on the video. Change adds up fast as you just stated. Thee is nothing wrong with saving it. I'm proof of that. Also, there is nothing wrong with roommates. Most young adults like yourself go through this. I did in my early 20's. I had 5 roommates. It was great for awhile but in time you will find yourself wanting to get your own place. Now is the time to save up for that down payment on a house. Save that change. Take Care & Happy New Years to you!

It didn't have anything to do with scrapping. I was just starting scrapping when I had heart problems. I had no history of issues. Out of the blue I passed out and woke up in the hospital. My wife said they did cpr on me for awhile. She though I was dead. What a scary experience. So to answer your question I found Faith again after many years of parting, screwing around and not giving an S*#@ about anything. That's what changed my life. The big guy had other plans for me evidently. Take Care.

Crazy great idea! I thought and started doing this about a week ago and have found a ton of coins in my room lying around and already have $23.00! I'm going to be eighteen in a few months, and plan on moving out with some reliable friends. Hey, some people may say that's a bad idea, but I know how trust worthy these people are, and I'm definitely saving this video to a playlist for future references. I know a lot of my friends say they HATE coins, but love money? COINS ARE MONEY, and when you get rid of them, you're getting rid of your money. Definitely gonna share with my roommates so all our pocket change doesn't go to waste. THANK YOU!

This reply is to Brianna Robinson. Sorry I can't reply to your questions directly because your not linked to Google. Please link so I can answer them in the comment section. I'll try here though. Some finance guys say up to %15 percent or more. That is almost impossible though. Just save as much as you can starting out. When you get higher paying jobs or raises as you go through life take that extra money and save it because you were living with out it before so you can still live and just pretend you never got the raise. Get in the habit of just putting that extra into savings. Also at your age you should be looking into IRA's. If you invest now you will be a millionaire in your 50's. Don't put it off. It is important to save as soon as you can. Start today! I know it is hard to do starting out but soon it will just become habit and you will have enough saved for that car! I'm proud of you for making the first steps to saving and buying things with CASH. Don't ever get into credit card debt please! It is not worth it. Good Luck and Take Care

Do you check your dollar bills before you take them to the bank? There's some that are worth more than a dollar. Quirky serial numbers, * serials, image errors. Your savings might be worth more than what you count :). Some quarters are made of 40 and 90% silver too.

The easiest way is to just look at the date on the coin. Anything pre 1964 on quarters and dimes are silver. Also check the edge of the coin. It won't show two different metals. Take a regular coin and look at the side and you will see what I mean. Silver is all one color.

I totally agree with you.........I started saving change early in 2013 and we ended up with about $204 ..it would hv been more..but we cashed it in at Meijers and they take a fee..but they give you cash back for whats left...but this year 2014,,we just cashed it in to pay for Easter dinner........since Dec 2013 we had saved about $68 and we went to the bank to where they have a change counter....no fee......it adds up very fast...thanks for showing us how you save yours......I might start the dollars too...great idea...

I live by myself and go to University. I hadn't been very strict about stashing my coins, but whenever I cleaned the house I'd put any quarters I found in a jar. And thank goodness I did! I found myself with less than $5 in my pocket today, almost no food in the house and still just under a week before I have any chance of getting money. I was actually getting quite scared! Then I thought to myself 'Oh yes I have that jar of coins' Just over $100 in quarters but that feels like one hell of a lot right now! *phew* More than enough to get me by! Definitely going to be really rigorous with my saving from now on

I so glad you had that stash! I know how times can be. My wife and I struggled through all kinds of terrible debt for the first 4 years of marriage. We learned how to get by very cheap to save and pay off our bills. Once one was paid off we would add that money to the next bill. Pretty soon we were dumping lots of money and got them paid off. I hope you continue to save even more now. Good Luck and I appreciate the comment. Take Care.

I do the same thing with 5's. I just put them in an envelope and when I get 200, I seal it and put it away. I REALLY like the idea of using change for Christmas gifts, I'll start doing that.

You Guys are great! I am frugal too! so I KNOW i can do this, I shop at $1 tree for all kinds of stuff :D Thanks for your help, I posted this vid to my Facebook also, hopefully it well help others.

The $1 tree rocks! We buy a lot there too and even all our Birthday/Christmas wrapping paper. That stuff is expensive and regular stores. I mean like 5 bucks for a roll of paper that just get's tossed! That's just an example. When we have Family parties we just buy paper plates there too. These are just a few examples. There is nothing wrong with shopping there, and we don't care what anyone thinks. We are saving quite a nice nest egg on top of all this for maybe even an early retirement? Who knows. See what you did. You got us fired up about saving again! I love it. Take Care & Good Luck! Oh ya, thanks for posting the video. We appreciate that.
