How to safely set and operate a conibear trap

Conibear, or body gripping, traps are frequently used for capturing aquatic mammals such as beavers, muskrats, and otters. It is very important that you exercise caution when using these traps, saving you a substantial amount of pain or possibly a trip to the hospital. This video will provide you step-by-step instructions for safely setting and operating a conibear trap.

I like the using the hand tongs to set the springs, a nice set can be purchased for less than $20. Just don’t order them too short, the longer the easier to use.

Why in the HAY-ELL would you have a protocol for using your hand to set off the trap????? How about a stick? Then you don't have to remember "thumb in hand down" you just remember: use stick; keep fingers.

Irwin quick grip spreader clamp. Best way to set a stiff new conibear 330 trap. One handed setting. Cheers.

picture from camera was blurry in places or either water was on lens. Hard to see the pins and small details on the trap itself, but otherwise good explanation. Frank would be proud of you or maybe he was the one who told you to make a video?

How do you remove the latches on the springs so easily at the end? On mine, the tension on the spring is so tight I can't even move that latch let alone remove it.

Try to move the latch towards the coil it should loosen it self. But be slow and careful and dont have your fingers near the frame.
