How to safely eat the poisonous tropical fruit Monstera Deliciosa
One of our tastiest tropical fruits is also our most dangerous. The Monstera Deliciousa, known as the "fruit salad fruit" combines nature's most delicious flavors into one fruit. However, if you eat the flesh before it ripens your lips and tongue will burn for hours!
The monstera deliciousa plant is used throughout sough Florida as a decorative landscaping feature and most people have no idea there's a delicious fruit right outside their window.
Most people think I'm joking when I offer a cup full of this fruit, especially when the see it's intimidating shape. Then they take a bite, ask for more, and often ask for some to take home.
I hope you get a chance to try a ripe monstera deliciousa some day. You'll love it!

Monster is only half their name. The other half of their name is delicious.
With the way you have to eat it, and its fruity scent, it sounds like a fruit fly magnet. How do you deal with that?
@SleepyLizard
4 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing you're referring to Fungus Gnats which are the little insects that swarm ripe fruit that's been sitting often referred to as fruit flies. If so, you're correct that if left sitting for a few days a monstera will attract the gnats just like bananas or any other fruit. The way we deal with it is to eat the ripe part each day and then cut off what we've eaten. The Fruit Fly is a completely different insect. It's an invasive species that's closely monitored by the department of agriculture. If fruit flies are found on a farm in Florida the state steps in, quarantines the farm and surrounding farms and destroys all the fruit....it is a catastrophe. If left unchecked fruit flies can wipe out entire fruit crops which has a devastating impact on the US economy
@michaelhmiles
4 жыл бұрын
@@SleepyLizard Yeah, I know the difference between the two. Fruit flies come into homes here on fruit and can become a swarm in only a few days. Disgusting. Horrible fruit. Even when it ripens it still got microscopic pin needles that poke the crap out your mouth. My dad got very sick from the pieces I gave him. Started coughing blood. I feel so bad. He complained bout the pricks when he ate I assured him it goes away quick. The next day he's coughing blood whole morning. Going to hospital now. I threw the fruit away. Dsnt taste that good to me anyways tasted like bland appletiser with a flower petal taste.
