How to run multiple WSJT-X on one computer, FT8 under different callsigns and separate QSO logs.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Enter Multiple WSJT-X Instances! Normally, it is easy to set a new callsign in the WSJT-X software. You can make FT8 contacts then under the different callsign. But the problem is that, in this case, the contacts you made will be logged in the same old log file within the WSJT-X together with all your other contacts under your other callsign. This would make very difficult to operate, for example, the special callsign and extract the contacts made under the new callsign into a separate logbook.
This video explains how to configure multiple instances of WSJT-X program in order to have possibility to run different callsigns and have separate log files, all on the same computer. Reading the WSJT-X user manual might be beneficial! You will also learn how to run FT8 on two radios simultaneously on the same computer!

Thank You very much! I am going to use it to work the RS-44 satellite with FT-4 and I need to be able to hear myself when I am transmitting. I tried installing twice and it would not let me but I think your solution should take care of me. THANK YOU for your video. DE K8OCN

Hello, Nice explanation and educational. Still, I wonder if you know how to log long callsigns with WSJT-X v2.6.1? We use OP70IPA (special callsign) but WSJT-X cannot report to a counter station F5HRF/P. Actually it should say F5HRF/P -15 But this doesn't work. The program keeps sending F5HRF/P and conversely you also get the same from the opposing station, so F5HRF/P But reporting and forwarding 73 does not work. Do you know the solution because you used LY33 after all? 73 the ON6AT Patrick

Hello Patrick! Thanks for watching and for raising this important question! Unfortunately there is no, to my knowledge, solution to this problem when two non-standart callsigns want to QSO. The oficial user manual of WSJT-X openly states this in the chapter 7.5 : “WSJT-X 2.6 offers no support for two nonstandard callsigns to work each other”. :(( I had this problem working with special callsigns too. As a result, among hundreds of contacts,I have no QSO’s with other non-standard callsigns in the log … I think it comes from the limitations of the software itself . I don’t know if other FT8 apps have this problem, I’m afraid , they do as they use the same backbone algorithm of the WSJT-X. I think, this problem should be solved by the authors of it in one way or another, as FT8 has become so widely popular that initial experimenter’s niche is just too tight for it. Let’s hope for this! 73! LInas LY2H
