How to run a faster 5K and why nobody gives a sh*t about the Olympics | TRC Podcast EP01

It's our first episode! Andy and Sarah discuss tips on how to run a faster 5K and Andy explains that, much to his annoyance, nobody gives a sh*t about the Olympics (but they do care a lot about parkrun).
The Running Channel Podcast tackles one big topic each episode, amongst helpful tips and light-hearted chat on the latest news in the running world. Hosted by Sarah Hartley (amateur runner) and Andy Baddeley (former pro runner), the TRC Podcast is friendly, jargon-free, and the perfect accompaniment to your runs.

Technically you do have to "qualify" for parkrun by registering first. I emailed Jo Sinton-Hewitt in March 2011 to set one up in Peterborough but didn't register until August 2013. I would have had a much lower number. Still, it's inside the first 600,000.

I am 46 years old and I found you guys during the pandmic. I was over weight and I wanted something different. Sence following you I have lost 55 pounds and I have ran four 1/2 marathons and two full marathons. My attitude was to complete and not compete. Now I am ready for a time challenge. I would like some advice how do I choose a plan that would help me achieve my time goal.

Nice work :) If you keep running and enjoy setting time goals for yourself on different distances i would really recommend to get a garmin watch or something similar. It helped me allot when i started taking running a bit more serious, removed hours of time spend on the internet looking up different training schedules. Once you wear it a few weeks and did some runs, it will start to chart out training schedules for you, and u can set up goals on a calendar and it will automatically take those goals into account when setting up your runs. Really really worth it if you want to pick up running as a steady hobby. *not a sponsored comment

Favorite topics: Injury prevention and prehab tips! Sometime injury comes out of nowhere...how to solve muscle imbalance to prevent injuries is a good one too! Second one: how to pace properly in a race, especially with rolling hills. And a last one: how to properly increase pace during training and when to do it?

My understanding is it's just get enough carbs before, protein and carbs after. I'm over simplifying it a bit, but that is a starting point. How those food groups are eaten is up to each individual runner. Replace electrolytes after too... Doesn't have to be specialist running products, just eat a banana for potassium, and so on

I am currently injured from a stupid leg placement and my doctor suggested a recovery of 6 weeks at least-seems impossible as I was running 4 times a week before the injury. Also the mental part of not going out for a run could be a subject of a future episode maybe 😊

I found this channel by accident, and it is quite helpful in equipment use and technique to avoid injury i use a Garmin vioactive 4 that replaced my old Garmin watch. I brought it mostly for when I had covid in 2020 and for the pulse oxi sensor. walking makes me stronger and any tips from shoes, watches, to exercises for warm ups are helpful for those who aren't runners. i am amending my initial review for myself this channel helped me with sneakers and how long they last. i was about 300,000 steps in a month and the pain i was experiencing in my foot it felt like I was wearing nothing. i changed the insoles and it was way better. so i went into a store and tried on a hoka sneakers and it was better than the Nike cross train sneakers. people who actually run for working out or fun they field test these equipment that these sneakers i will incorporate into my walks. thanks guys for the reviews and scientific information.

perfectly timed new podcast by presenters i like!🤩 especially with run4it's podcast in limbo from a lack of presenters and Marathon talk podcast in its newest rendition being horribly americanised and saccharine. good luck with this new adventure, really enjoyed the first episode 😃
