How to Rig Live Shrimp for Fishing - Most Effective Technique!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here is a great in depth tutorial on how to rig live shrimp for fishing. Shrimp is one of the most effective baits you can use, rigging them naturally will help trigger the most aggressive strikes while helping your hook up ratio. For the first rigging technique, I demonstrate how to hook a live or whole shrimp in the horn, after the gaglion. This technique allows for complete range of motion and give the most natural presentation without harming the shrimp.
The second technique is to run the hook from bottom to top through the tail and out the back. This is a great technique to hide the hook and give a great flicking motion from the shrimp. I also favor this rigging style because of the ease of casting.
The third technique is similar to the second but instead of running the hook through the bottom to the top you hook the side of the tail.
Lastly, probably the most gruesome is removing the tail and running the hook through the shrimp and pulling the barb out of the under side of the shrimp. This way the bait cast well but also allows scent to flow through the water column attracting larger prey.

Hi Josh, great video. A suggestion for the fourth method. Instead of having the hook exit through the bottom of the shrimp, make the hook exit through the top of the shrimp. This keeps the body in a straight line which is more natural as the shrimp moves through the water.

Great vid Joshua! When sight fishing for bonefish in Miami we use your last method with a smaller hook. The difference is once you have slid the hook through the tail we turn it around and hook it into the body like a Texas rig. It prevents the hook from snagging the grass in shallow water.

When there is medium size shrimp..I use your 3rd method...use two prawns / shrimp facing each other with their own legs trying to fend each other off.. this in turn keeps the bait very reactive on the hook .. hook up rates are alot more on barra & jacks 😎🇦🇺👍👍👏👏

Consider this... I hook my shrimp from under the head and up through the horn. This way the hook is not laying down on one side sometimes causing the shrimp to roll to one side. Balanced... and this way you can also reel the shrimp in as slow a possible and the shrimp will look like its swimming towards you. Like a very slow lure. Then if you feel the shrimp kicking, stop and wait.. repeat
