I had a motorbike as a teenager, and have taken the motorcycle safety course, 10 years ago. Now as a senior, I have acquired a scooter. So glad I found this series of videos. Age and no clutch make a big difference. I am going to cancel my enrolment in a beginner motorcycle course scheduled 3 months out. Having taken it before, it will not provide me with the skills I need.

another thing is that if your feet dont hit the ground whe your sitting fully on the seat, thats not good.never be uncomfortable and at the end of your seat to barley touch the ground.get a smalleer/closer to the ground bike in order to reduce accidents and to have more controll of your bike.

Wow...watching this is VERY helpful! I'm actually thinking about booking a Vespa Bike Tour in Florence, Italy as I'll be visiting in 3 weeks. I've read many reviews from some people who have rode a vespa motor bike for the first time on the tour I'm considering and some beginners said they couldn't get the hang of it so they opted out of riding the vespa all together. While there were other beginners who said it was pretty comfortable once they got the hang of it. I feel watching some of these scooter bike videos will better prepare me for riding a vespa in getting an understanding of how to control the bike. I was thinking about chickening out and just not doing the vespa tour after reading bad reviews from people who have had bad first-time experiences but after seeing this video, I'm feeling more brave to try it (and I REALLY wanna try it) 🙂

Deat Ian, greetings from Lima Peru! in a moment of madness I bought a Vesta 150 2018. It looks exactly like the one your're using in your videos. You're a fantastic teacher. I keep my Vespa in the garage because in Peru we need a driving license even for 150 scooters. Meaniwhile, I´m watching your videos. The garage is four floors under... and I'm terribly afraid of trying to take it out of the garange...These are three narrow and steep floors, is there a particular lesson you could refer me to in which you discuss a situation like this? And, thanks a million for your lessons!!!

QUICK TIPS = knees in - revs high and keep rear brake - look to where you want to go. Also - Remember if you go slow... the bike wobbles... so you need to get a little speed up so then centrifugal forces work in your favours and keep you bike upright.

I'd go for a CC 125 or CC 150. You want a bit of power for passing vehicles, getting away from danger swiftly, power for the slow-ride and also if/when you're in 60k or 80k zone you want to go with the flow.

Hi Ian! First of all, I want to say I'm really happy I've fundo this playlist. I've watched lots of videos about how to ride a scooter, but your videos were the ones who gave me a clear learning plan, so thank you so much. Right now, I'm still getting used to using the brakes and throttle, but my plan is to ride with my boyfriend to work, so I will have to learn how to ride with someone one the backseat. So I want to ask: when should I start training with someone on the backseat? Is it better to start getting used to it while I'm still getting used to the brakes and throttle, or do you think I should first be familiar with riding in general? I know it's been a while since this video, but I'd be really happy if you could answer my question 🥰

Some tips for riding with a passenger: (1) make sure they are seated comfortably, with feet resting on the pegs, and they are holding something with at least one hand before you take off. (2) rider and passenger need to work out a way of communicating when it is accelerate, slow down and stop time... this can be down with body language (e.g. when you take off and accelerate drive leans forward and the passenger gets the message and when slowing down or stopping driving sits up) (3) turns - work out a system so the passenger doesn't wobble, lean too much; not lean at all... and they do this consistently. Conclusion... I think I need to make a video about this!

Setting up the brakes --- gets the brake pads in the ready position so you can then apply them gently ALSO it's about the mind-set... because this techniques means you focus on observing dangers EARLY and getting ready. Otherwise, you have un-prepared riders, who are not thinking ahead.

Good question - use your arm & shoulder strength instead of all your hand muscles. when throttle is off... you hand should point down and wrist should be bent... then as you increase the throttle... your wrist move to straight and less muscles are used.
