How to rework an old painting for a dramatically new result

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Do you ever get stuck after taking a break from an unfinished or unsuccessful painting and aren't sure what to do next? Do you ever hesitate to add more paint because you're afraid to "ruin" what you already have, even though you know it's currently not what you wanted? You're in the right place!
In this video, I demonstrate and explain the creative process I use to drastically shake things up and head in a different artistic direction as a mixed media painting. This time around I'm using black to shift the feeling of a formerly colorful panel. By desaturating the color palette and changing the composition, I end up with a painting 180 degrees different from where I began.
Materials used: 8'x8" cradled wood panel, acrylic paint, collage, crayons, and a color shaper.
Comments, questions, and shares are always welcome and appreciated - Thank you for watching!

This was great! One thing I love about your videos is how honest you are about your own process, you speak out loud what we´re all thinking while we create but are ashamed to admit and that is so refreshing, also you always end up with great pieces. Thank you so much for sharing.

Love it Jackie! It takes a ton of energy to pull out one of the relics that didn’t quite hit the mark and attack it. What a transformation. You’re officially my hero of the day. Be well

Thanks so much - yeah, it feels daunting at the start! But once the first collage pieces and paint go down there’s no turning back! 😆❤️

I’m loving using the wooden panels for collage. I had my uncle help me make so many in different shapes and sizes.

Hi again. Any chance you took Nicholas Wilton’s tutorials? You use similar language…. But different style obv. I really relate to your aesthetic! Tx for this. You answered my previous question on papers in your demo. Who knew!

Hi Susan! I took his free taster session a couple years ago, but haven’t taken CVP. Did you go through, CVP? How did you find it? ❤️❤️❤️

@@jackieschomburgart I’m doing it now. Obviously there is a learning curve that never ends but I’m frustrated being at the bottom. Radar and intuition are constantly jamming each other so all will be revealed!

What’s your background? Also that celadon green is my favourite color but it doesn’t appear anywhere on Amazon? I have every shade of green including green gray…. But not as pretty. Did you mix it and name it? Recipe of your burst guess?

So cool! I love it ❤️. Can I ask what you sealed with? And the crayons, are they Neocolor I or II, as the read mark did not bleed when you put medium on top? 🙂

Thanks Eva! I sealed everything with gloss medium and the crayons I used are Neocolor 1 (they will not bleed) ❤️

Just one more question 🙋‍♀️. Is it a canvas you are working on or wood 🙂?
