How To Restore Your Wheels At Home! DIY Porsche 944 Wheel Refinishing

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video we take the absolutely tattered Porsche 944 Cookie Cutters and give them much needed refresh. The clear coat on the lip was completely failed, chipping, pitted and downright disgusting. The paint on the faces and barrels was not far off. I stripped them down, polished the metal, gave everything a few fresh layers of paint, and this is what were left with!
I wanted to make this video as a DIY approach and hopefully give you guys some ideas that you can do at home for super cheap. Everything I used in this video is super affordable and available at your local hardware or parts store. Obviously they are not flawless but that wasn't the intention. I hope you all enjoy the video. If you have any questions just let me know. Much love.

    Fun fact: Porsche dealerships always put in the hub caps with the pointy end of the Porsche-emblem (the bottom, where it is kind of V-shaped) "looking" to the valve stem. I think it's a nice little detail, but otherwise, great restoration job 👍

    In my mid-60s…I’ve owned numerous sports cars. Regarding the wheels, I’ve always lived by the tenet that the simpler the design, the better. When it comes to “what looks good”, I recognize that topic is highly subjective and personal, but much like your 944’s wheels, my 944s2’s D9s are a testament to simplicity, while being complementary to the car’s appearance. . I once owned a Mazda RX-7 convertible, with BBS wheels similar to that red Bimmer wagon’s in your background….keeping them clean was a genuine PITA!!! I just recently finished detailing my Jeep TJs Grizzly wheels…I wish now, that I had one of those ‘Spinna’ things. Your wheels look fantastic, and are a testament to your dedication to attending to the smallest detail….and that sanding the edge of the sandpaper to form to the shape to prevent overspray? Pure genius! Well done, amigo, on this video….we’ll done!

Your stuff just gettin’ bettah, congratulations! 🤩 When I started graffiti almost 30 years ago, I used Dupli paints, as there were no Belton, no Molotow or Montana that time. @@ChromaticGarage I really love your vids, the combination of your detailing and filming/editing skills is pretty unique! And, i don´t know if you remember, but about a year ago i commented under your plastic trim restauration on the E36 that you really inspired me to get the best out of my Coupé as well. And man, you had me falling down a rabbit hole since then! 😅 I´m sort of "done" (i guess you´re never completely done, got a new roof lining laying here already f.e.), ceramic coated the car (also with ArmorShield 😉) and i just can´t stop staring at it. Never would´ve even imagined just how much you still could get out of that boston green! With indirect lighting it literally looks like i polished it into a mirror! 😁 Got a pic of it as my channel background if you wanna take a look, although that´s already a couple month old and looks even crazier now. I gotta get around and make a crappy vid or maybe just a diashow type video of it, but i´m definitely lacking your skills there! 😅 Anyway, just wanted to thank you, like i said, seeing your convertible honestly motivated me to take it this far and i absolutely can´t get enough of looking at it now! 🙏👌

    Having worked at a wheel restoration shop, I can tell that you did an amazing job with the tools you had at hand. Great diy tutorial! The wheel roller definitely makes everything a lot more easier for polishing if anyone wants to have a go themselves. And don't skip masking the area that contacts the brake discs because your discs won't be able to transfer heat as well as they should be able to if you paint them.

    Ooooo 🤤 Porsche cookie cutters are such a sexy wheel 🤌🏼 uncle and I refinished and triple chromed a set for his insane bagged split window bug a while back. That 944 is gorgeous man 🤤 been wanting to build one eventually. Daily a 944, with a nice little 964 Ruf weekend/fun mode piece 😍 Feel like I’ve had withdrawals not being able to stay caught up and watch the new videos 😂 I’m stoked to finally back ✊🏼😎 Main reason was SEMA prep and then getting back in the groove after. I forget every year how absolutely fucking exhausting SEMA is 🤦🏻‍♂️ but so incredibly worth it haha Finally got my RF’s finished up that I’ve been slowly building for way too long, BUT just like SEMA, the wheel build and process has been super worth it as well👀 not sure if you’ll see it, but I may have to DM a pic on IG that you’ll possibly come across one day 😂 I’m just way too proud of them, like a new dad with his first born son

  • @eric8588

    Brake Buster for maintenance. Iron removers are too strong for frequent use or if not heavy contamination.

  • @bradleypeters4933

    @bradleypeters4933

    From my experience, I use a dedicated iron/fallout remover to clean my wheels about once a month to help prevent contamination from pitting my wheels. For weekly maintenance washes P&S brake buster works wonders and it foams up nicely when cleaning the tires too. It's also much more affordable than using an iron remover every time you wash your vehicle

  • @ChromaticGarage

    @ChromaticGarage

    Definitely brake buster for maintenance! Iron removers don’t really add cleaning lubrication so while being very effective you need to add a soap regardless to not mare up your surfaces

    Better use 2K paint and the wheel center hole needs paint too, otherwise there will be corrosion again. And wrong tire size ;-) However, nice job!

    You would be better using catalyzed paints and primers/clears as in 2k. Much more durable.
