This is definitely the safe way of replacing this and these instructions are good. Often you don't need the puller if you just gently rock the wiper assembly side to side it will slide right off unless very old. Removing this WITHOUT taking the whole arm off if definitely doable. There is a small rectangular slot on the blade when looked at from the bottom of the blade (slot is in the U shaped hook on the arm). Be cautious not to pull out on the blade assembly too far. Use a stubby/short narrow blade straight slot screwdriver and insert it into that rectangular slot. Push in on the screwdriver and push the blade itself toward the center on the vehicle. The blade should pop out and you'll have to carefully pull it towards the glass to get it off the U shaped hook. Make sure you look CAREFULLY at the new blade. Some on the market don't have a big enough slot cut into the blade to properly slide over that U shaped hook. You may never get it installed or it will take a ton of finagling and force. Either get the OEM blade or one you've checked for fit before buying. Good luck!

Excellent video. You can replace the blade without removing the entire arm. YOU MUST BE VERY CAREFUL HOWEVER. I just replaced the rear blade on my '08 Acadia the other day. Only pull the assemble as far back as it is designed to go. Look at the instructions on the new package to see how it snaps in. Putting even pressure on the old blade will eventually cause it to release. Snapping the new blade in after that is easy.

recrockett there should be a tension spring inside the arm from excessive travel during blade removal. The spring needs to be attached some it also provides tension against the window during normal blade sweep. Puller will make it much easier and the one showed works. Puller note. This puller doesn’t have a rubber boot on the threaded part just slight taper. Really important to have the puller perfectly centered on the retaining nut shaft/stud. Amazon sells one more model that not only has the boot but also has a wheel that spins around the shaft of the puller and actually locks the claws in place as you are tightening the puller shaft. Prevents the claws of the puller from falling off.

After looking at another video and the instruction book which came with the Acadia, I was able to find the push button which allows removal. While pushing down on the button which is near the center of the wiper (this must be done blind), slide the wiper toward the motor bolt w/o lifting up the wiper cover. It will move. Took me a few tries to get it off. Look at the orientation of the old unit when you remove it, so you can understand how to slide the new one on. I just put the new one into place and pulled away from the motor bolt and it popped into place.

At 2:33 into the video all you need to do is follow the instructions on the package. The hard part is getting the blade onto the arm while it is still on the car. That is why I RECOMMEND that you take it off. There are many ways to change the blade, this is just one way to do it.

Great video sir. As it turns out I'm replacing the rear blade arm and bought a new blade for it. As I had deduced that installing the blade before installing the arm would be the best way to go about things, I headed over here in search of how to install the blade. My lucky day, your video taught me how to replace the arm. Not my lucky day, my wiper came with the wrong instructions for the blade I was sold. Was hoping you had one like mine and then I could install it. But alas, it was not to be and we will never know. Off to find a video on how to install the blade...

Nor bad but you should of shown the popping of the wiper on. It's a lot tougher then it's supposed to be. You basically have to force the plastic line into the slit with lots of force until it clicks on

The 2019 does not have the washer fluid hose and comes right off when unscrewing the nut. The hard part was getting the plastic piece in the middle to push down enough to release the blade. The new blade went on really easily and snapped down where it belongs.

Here's something that's always 100% true. If the KZread video says something's easy without showing you how they did it, you can be sure it's anything but. To remove the old wiper you need a flat head and a big pair of channel locks. Push the button then yank on it like it stole your wallet. I also didn't need a puller for mine.

You hit the nail on the head: if they don’t show the “easy” part, it wasn’t easy. I hate when tutorials cut out “easy” steps. Show everything. Never assume the viewer knows anything about whatever you’re demonstrating.

You don’t explain how to get the assembly back all the way down on the tapered piece. Also it’s much easier to replace the blade without taking the entire assembly off. I did it your way and now putting it back on the exact way it was is not possible. Did you use any sort of hammer to get it back down and lock onto the tapered part?

  • @brightwaterspictures

Put a slight amount of light grease on the spline, position the wiper arm so that it sits on the bottom of the window, you might have to move a little up or down to find the right spot then hold the wiper blade such that the blade is slightly lifted off the window while putting downward pressure on the bottom of the arm, and then push down on the base of the wiper so that it engages the spline on the car. If you were able to get the blade off without removing the arm then you lucked out. It does help if you buy the replacement blade first and read the directions to see how the blade is installed and then attempt to replace without removing the arm.

@@brightwaterspictures thank you for reply. I figured it out this morning. Also used a wire brush to clean spline first but didn't think to use grease. Might take it off again and put marine grease on it. If you get it all the way on the spline correctly it should stay in place without the nut, and not spin, correct?

  • @brightwaterspictures

J Bart once you push the arm on and it is seated on the tapered spline, tighten just enough that the nut does not want to turn anymore. It is not critical. The proper way to do it is to use a torque wrench but it is not critical. Once it is on the tapered spline it is not going to come off.

I did not think I needed to explain how to snap the blade in when the instructions were printed on the new wiper package. It simply snaps onto the arm and it is much easier to do when the arm is off of the car. Some have commented that you can remove and replace the blade with the arm still on the car but the heavy tension on the arm make it pretty hard to do. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Totally unnecessary. Just ask yourself, would they manufacture a vehicle that requires removing the entire arm just to replace a wiper blade? All you have to do is compress the clip inside the small square whole on the J bracket and slide the old wiper blade down. Literally takes 60 seconds to change.
