[How To] Replace Your Blazer Headlight Housing (2020 - 2022)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I show the process required to replace the headlight on a 2020 Chevy Blazer. GM appears to seriously be trying to end the phase of vehicle owners working on their own vehicles. It is a TERRIBLE design when you have to completely remove the entire front of your vehicle to just replace the headlight.

    Modern cars aren't D.I.Y. friendly, I had to go through a similar ordeal with my 2016 Toyota Corolla Sport; I had to take off the entire front fascia to replace one 'fog' light.

    It’s sad, but true. I don’t even think it’s possible to replace a single headlight bulb in the 2019+ Silverados. At least, I haven’t seen anyone show how to do it. It’s looking like, if you have a headlight go out on the Silverados, you have to replace the entire headlight housing. I could be wrong, but I have yet to see evident otherwise.

    I own a '20 Blazer 2LT, AWD V6 for over a year (bought it used in early '23. So far, ZERO problems and ZERO recalls. I love this vehicle however, I do agree that the 35W HID lights could be Brighter. I was wondering if anyone knows about higher output bulbs that will fit in the "D3S sockets", possibly 50w units. I realize I would need to swap out the 35W ballasts for 50Watters . The main concern I would have is the HEAT generated by the larger bulbs doing damage to the plastic housings. Any info would be GREATLY appreciated!

    The only issue my sister has had with her blazer is the thermostat got stuck open, but that was an easy replacement. This headlight housing replacement was not because of an issue with the vehicle. Unfortunately, I have no info about bulb replacements.

    The standard headlights on all 2019-2022 Blazers are HID. LED became an option on 2020 models, but the default is HID.

    The Blazers do not have fog lights. They have two light sections on each side. 1: the running light that is directly below the hood. 2: the headlight & blinker housing that is in the front fascia.

    That’s crazy. It’s sad that it’s similar with most modern cars these days. This reminds of me of working on several Chevy Malibus where you have to take the entire bumper off to just change the headlight bulb. This is also a reason why I’m never getting any vehicle that comes with LED headlights. If a light goes out, you need to replace the whole headlight assembly because the bulb is sealed in, you can’t change the bulb yourself.

  • @SouthpawGarage

    @SouthpawGarage

    4 ай бұрын

    That’s a good point about the LED headlights. I basically have to hope my Silverado headlights never go out because I don’t want to know what it would cost if I have a bulb go out since I can’t just replace a simple bulb.

  • @maximagmhondafan8892

    @maximagmhondafan8892

    Right! I was looking for a part number for the factory LED headlight bulbs for this vehicle, I even searched for a tutorial on how to change them and I couldn’t find either of those anywhere. That’s when I realized they’re all one piece. Again, it sucks that these newer vehicles are becoming less and less DIY friendly. The worst part is that if you get caught by police driving with one headlight and get a ticket, you’re gonna have to sacrifice an arm and a leg to get it repaired before your court date. But those lights should last a very long time because they consume much less energy than the HID and halogen bulbs.

    @@SouthpawGarage In case you haven't heard, the Bronco "Sport" has HORRIBLE reliability along with the Escape because they share the same platform. For the whole story, check Consumer Reports reliability ratings. As for the "Regular" Bronco (big one), it's based on the Explorer platform, the Explorer is the "poster child" for a sh*tload of problems! My advice, get a Toyota or Honda. You will be glad you did!

I am sure there are other options available on the market as well if you want to look around and compare options.
