Great video. Left the camper for a while and came back to find the heater trips the mains power when i turn on at the panel. Heating with gas is working fine. Thinking the heating element is dead but need to do some more research/ testing first.

Thx. i have an Atwood 10 gallon hot water heater in my motor home and the heater element appears to be on the inside just like in your video. Not sure that I'm up to the task of taking out the entire hot water heater especially since i have an upcoming appointment to fix this very issue!

Does not matter which wire goes on either terminal on heater. Someone should devise a better way to get to element.

Not sure but have you tested the relay on the 12v side? Your switch is 12v and activates the relay to provide 120v power.

Yes the same thing we had happened. That was a result of turning on the electric without any water in the tank burns up the element in less that 30 secs. If you have a meter, at around 9 min mark I show you how to test it

@KevinandKimOutdoorAdventures ours had water, but I guess the previous owner had made the mistake. They advised us about the thermal fuse and having to replace it. And I happened to learn about stink bugs hiding in the propane tube myself.

Kevin, nice video thanks for posting. My only critique would be this. You refer to hot water heater. Isn’t it just a water heater? If it was hot water, you wouldn’t need a heater! 😝😁

@Kevin and Kim Outdoor Adventures got very similar. Ive noticed Australia and America have different model numbers. And our aussie model numbers dometic/atwood dont have on their systems. Cant work out 240v power. I have 240v cable going to water heater. But no switch for it or manual for how it works. I know gas works tho

@@Bobodeman you may also check the relay off the switch. Mine has a 12v relay that turns on and makes contact for the 120v to heating element. You might want to check that
