    Thanks a ton! I tried to make the video as informative as i could with the limited footage i had of the actual process. Its definitely one that would have been extremely difficult to record during the actual replacement. Dont forget to like and sub!

    Is this the same 2.0 they use for the newer models, if so do you think I’d be able to take a turbo from this car and put it on the new 2.0 engines?

    You dont need to remove the manifold if replacing/rebuilding the turbo. Only reason i did was because i bought the whole assembly as new so replaced everything.

    My mechanic says my 2011 Kia Optima needs turbo replaced, is it the same process as you have shown? Originally thought it was EWGA voltage.

    Hey. What are your symptoms? I have a video on how to adjust the waste gate voltage if you'd like to try that first. If you have the 2.0L engine, the turbo setup should be similar if not the same. I havnt inspected any other years of the 2.0L optimas but the process has to be similar. I've got another video on how to rebuild the turbo (replace the chra cartridge) however havnt posted that yet. Best of luck, and let me know how things go!

    I'm getting this whining noise on my kia optima and i was told i need to replace the turbo, is that enough resson to replace the turbo and can it be fixed, notes my tubo do leak oil too

  • @blueglovemechanic

    @blueglovemechanic

    So there are a couple potential issues. If you have a leak in an air line, or your intercooler, you could hear a whine noise as shown in another video i have. If somebody diagnosed the turbo as being bad however, as long as the turbo shell is in good condition, you can just replace the chra cartridge. Basically you have to follow the same steps as shown in this video, but the chra cartridge is held in place with a snap ring. As for your oil leak, that could be a damaged oil line feeding to your turbo, a bad gasket leaking between said line and turbo, or your turbo housing could be cracked. So in short, your best bet would be to remove the turbo completely and inspect.

    Whelp, the only real electronic connected to the turbo is your wastegate, so i would check out my "how to adjust turbo wastegate" video and see if your voltage is off/needs changed. If you continue to have the issue you may want to look at just replacing the wastegate itself. Best of luck and let us know what you find!

    @@bradh7349 Sorry for late reply. Sounds like an underboost code. Have you watched my "how to adjust turbo wastegate voltage" video? That should take care of your code. There's no "programming" required for turbo replacement so not sure what your mechanics talking about, unless you went with a bigger or smaller unit.

    The CHRA cartridge by itself was like $65 off ebay. I replaced it around 30k miles ago and still going strong so dont let people who bash on "cheap ebay parts" deter you. The toughest part (aside from re-aligning all the oil & coolant lines during reinstall) is getting the snap ring off that holds the chra cartridge in place. If youre looking for the whole turbo housing with chra, i purchased the whole oem exhaust manifold and turbo assembly off ebay as well (this was a learning experience for me as it turned out my issue was that the welds on the bottom of my intercooler gave out). Im unsure where you could buy just the turbo housing with chra. What issues are you experiencing?

    Did you replace the intercooler as well, if the turbo isn’t my only problem I will be looking into that as well, I do appreciate the feedback though as it’s helped ease my mind from those who speak ill on the turbos for this car off eBay and your video was well produced and I feel confident in my ability to take on the job myself my only other question is, is it necessary to remove the engine or push the engine forward to removed and replace the complete manifold turbo setup

  • @blueglovemechanic

    @blueglovemechanic

    @@Ken-lr5pd All coolant and oil moves through the CHRA catridge so your oil leak is probably related to a seal going bad on that. So you can choose to either replace the CHRA by itself or the turbohousing + CHRA (im telling you now the snap ring they used will make you go insane trying to remove but if your persistant, the old one should come out with some rigging of tools). If i were you, id purchase the turbo housing + chra, as well as oil feed and oil return lines (i bent these removing everything but you may be able to salvage them if you're careful), it will save you time and headache if you can find the housing + chra combo (should be able to get everything off ebay for like $250 im guessing. If you just go with CHRA and oil lines you'd be looking at like $125). One thing i forgot to show removal of in this video is the coolant lines but thats just a few more bolts that attach to the CHRA housing. Be sure to reference my video multiple times to ensure you perform all the necessary reinstall tasks such as pre-lubricating the new chra with oil, as well as making sure the tiny guide pin on the turbo housing correctly aligns with the exhaust manifold. Don't force anything in place, realigning the new turbo in place is a task in itself so just make sure the pin is in place before reinstalling the clamps. Also start all oil and coolant line bolts before tightening anything in place as theyre difficult to align once everything is in place. I have my phone on me at all times and always reply to any comments that im notified of so dont hesitate to send a message if you have any questions! Best of luck, you got this!
