    For those not in the know. That is the Zetec motor. 00-04 had at least 4 motors. SPI(trash avoid) Zetec(change oil and timing belts lasts forever) SVT(basically a super Zetec that had 40 more HP but is less reliable if abused) Also 03-04 had a 2.3 duratec option. The duratec is what continued in all non turbo focus 05-end. They are generally solid and bulletproof motors. the 5spd manual has been the same since the begining. A 03 duratec 5sp will mount up to a 2019 or visa versa. The manual was also bulletproof. 05-07 are the best automatics. I don't recommend the Merc LV for those not originally spec for it no matter what they say. 12-19 the DPS6 is a great transmission when it works. Beware every major market has huge class actions.

    You guys are the best trainers out there. I go to you first for all repair stuff. However there are others that would rather just replace the Thermostat only. We need you to show also how to disassemble the housing replace the the thermostat and reassemble the housing. Have a great one.

    I have a Ford Focus 2005. The fan doesn't operate causing over heating. When the fan was tested directly, it rotated. What is causing fhe fan not operate automatically? Someone told me it could be thermostat. Do you have a thermostat for sell?

  • @btd2516

    @btd2516

    2 жыл бұрын

    There is a resistor in the fan shroud between the fans, the plug-in connector overheats and burns the connections and the fans won't run on the normal low speed. When this would happen with mine, I would turn on the ac and this would run the fans on high speed and resolve the over heating. You will need a new resistor and the plug assembly. Some parts stores call it a fan relay, I think O'reillys and Advance call it that. Good luck.

    Ive had to do this more times than I want to remember LOL... that original Motorcraft thermostat housing is similiar but Not identical in its design to the aftermarket one... while the mounts and ports are the same, the construction is quite different and it made of a Much more durable and solid material with fewer seams than the aftermarket one.. how do I know? I ve had both in my hands ...the OEM one looks like it has been on there from the stone ages! the seam around the oring usually cracks and breaks apart on aftermarket ones...you can see its still intacct on the OEM one... an oring replacement likely would have fixed any leaks...anyway, point being that if ur gonna replace one of these, there IS a difference in the build quility of the genuine motorcraft part vs aftermarket... choose accordingly.

    Yeah, I was wondering about that. I have a 2002 Focus Wagon. Not only does it 'yes' have a drain plug - but, much to my surprise that damn thing was super easy to turn (a large Phillips or flat head). I thought it might be all corroded in place. *TIP:* The drain plug is pinned to the radiator - which means that you can unscrew it until the coolant starts to drain, but no matter how much further you unscrew it after that, the plug won't come loose from the radiator and drop into your bucket. The way that it is designed, you do *not* have to over-tighten it in order to seal it back closed.

In fact, I’ve watched so many videos of your repairs on the same Ford Focus that I want to buy that car. It’s practically factory new since you’ve all finished with it. But back to the thermostat. A cheap click-type torque wrench will do 90% of what you need done. $25 at Harbor Freight for the 1/2" drive one that goes to 150 ft-lbs. Anything more than that is pretty much only needed for axle nuts, and even a lot of small shops don't bother there: they just rattle them on with an impact by feel.

    You are using the incorrect coolant !!!!!! It’s suppose to be Fords Motorcraft gold coolant ( G-05 ) !!!!!! This is incorrect and will cause problems .... Ford switched from the silicate based Green coolant to the Phosphate free HOAT coolant in 2000 and you will see on the degas chamber the sticker that says use only G-05 gold !!!!!
