    Thank you for making this video. This one, and some of your other videos, gave me the confidence and know-how to rebuild by Scrub Cadet with a Krohler. New oil seal, steering gear, tires, #2 valve body, crank case-oil pan seal, drive belt, and deck belt. I have no engine experience but my little 700 series Krohler has been running smooth since the rebuild. Maybe because I torqued everything down like a moon rocket? Thank you!!

    I have an Exmark Turf Tracer with a Kohler Command Pro 23 engine. My mower just started racing so, from what I could see from some videos, I have a Governor problem. The hole in my deck was big enough that I could get the engine out with the small pulley attached. When I turned it over I seen no set screws in the pulley. Does this pulley get pressed out? Also what do I look for once I take the cover off? Any help or past videos that you may have made on this topic sure would be helpful. I have grass growing and it isn't waiting for me. Thanks for any advice or help. Jack

    PLEASE HELP! HUGE QUESTIONS! #1. I have this style sump but its Courage twin engine, I rebuilt lower end and new valves, etc but I forgot to put loctite on the sump bolts and it's that RTV only gasket... (my all standard master rebuild kit did not come with new locating dowels or a gasket) AND all sump bolts LOOSENED UP!!! within an a hr!... can I put this REAL gasket on INSTEAD of, or with, the RTV?(more endplay?) (or just stick with rtv) #2 secondly, speaking of endplay, my NEW crank was NOT returnable, as they sent me WRONG one for a horiz vs a vert engine... so I had machine shop change gears on new crank and turn crank to match one I need. I noticed BEFORE I pulled it all apart, when I was underneath, that the crank shaft can move up & down almost 1/4 inch of endplay... (I didnt forget any shims, etc.) is my motor ruined?

Thank you

    My 17.5 Kohler has a triangle shape cover on the sump. It covers the oil pump. It has to be taken off so you can put the sump cover back. The oil pump shaft has a flat spot to drive the pump. If anything moves after the cover is off it won't line up. IF you take the oil pump out, the flat spots don't need to line up as you lower the sump cover. It's easy to line up and drop the pump parts onto the the shaft once the sump cover is already down.

    I did a sump on a Briggs and Stratton. That old gasket was almost paper thin yet it was made of some sort of black plastic. Most of it came off easily but for a few small spots I used a drill with a wire brush and a razor blade. I just used some oil resistant silicone instead of a gasket and no more leak. My Aunt had one with a similar engine except hers had a broken connecting rod that punched a small hole in the side. At first I thought she was just clumsy with the oil because it didn't have a real dipstick tube but I noticed that hole pretty quick. Of course that one would just spin and for a couple seconds and do nothing else. That was a 550EX series. I wonder how good or bad those are and if it was low on oil when the rod broke. I am not sure if it is a common problem with those or just a lack of maintenance but that is the first time I have seen that happen. I have heard of people welding those holes shut but I don't like doing that around oil or gasoline. I would prefer to keep my eye brows hahaha!

    just one question there... how on earth you get away installing seals and gaskets without headgasket selaer ? every time i attempted without it, it failed shortly. what i like to do, is to use break cleaner spary to super clean the surfaces, then apply a thin layer of gasket sealer (the heat resistant red stuff, naturally) and then apply the gasket, spray the gasket, then apply a thin layer of sleaer, spray the pen, then assemble. the pin you replaced, i glue those with bearing glue, makes sure the bugger stays in place for eternity, and will never allow any leakage. for sealings, spray clean, thin laye of gasket selaer, then hammer the fooker right in place. never had a problem. a nother thing to check with seals, check the shaft that goes in it, if it has deformed, the seal had bitten it, then a new seal will not live long. i usually take those to a machine shop, have them welded up a bit and grinded back to the original size. its not expensive, and makes things work far longer. i allso like to use the high temp. resistant heavyduty seals, usually come in red color and made out of silicone-ish material. works like a charm.

    Taryl bro I got a 98 craftsman tractor 15.5 hp kohler 6 speed. My question is id like to wire a LED driving light probably 50 watt. Is that possible to do? The lights that are on the tractor at this moment only work when the tractor is runing and they dim if i turn the speed down.

  • @TarylFixesAll

    @TarylFixesAll

    8 жыл бұрын

    You would have to get the alternator & voltage regulator from a tractor that has a an electric PTO in order to have enough voltage to run 50watts. Otherwise the battery will go dead if you try to run it for a long period of time with the lights on. You could try to wire it with the existing alternator before you decide to upgrade the electrical. Turn on the led lights & check across the battery to see how much draw yur pullin with the engine running at idle & full speed. That alnernator that you have now has a wire for chargin the battery & a separate wire for the head lights AC voltage. Thats why the lights dim. More voltage to the headlights when the engine is spinnin faster.

    The oil pan cover was hard to get in because you didnt take take the pushrods out. When you take the sump off with the pushrods in, the lifter springs push the cam and crankshaft out of position. Bad idea to pound on anything with a ball peen hammer like that...just pull the rocker covers and pushrods and save yourself the potential galled journal!
