We have gotten to the part where we need to take the wishbone all the way off the strut so we can take it out, but we're not sure how we should use a pry bar on the control arm. Another way to avoid risk of injury is to purchase replacement strut-spring assemblies. The new struts and springs are pre-assembled and the do-it-yourself job goes much quicker. For OEM, the parts cost is about 2X the cost of the struts alone. While the cost is higher for the parts, you get new springs and the time it takes to complete the job is much shorter.

I use air tools all the time but I want to demonstrate that mostly every repair i do can be done with just basic hand tools.

Sorry no disrespect intended, Jim, and maybe it's just this one video, but after struggling with the poor lighting, the reduced screen size, the shaky camera and one straight on camera view only, I just don't get the "great video" comments. I had to hunt down another video.

Why not just buy the assembly then all the parts are new and you don't have to mess with spring? They don't cost much more.

  • @jimthecarguy

You are correct they are not that much more but the car needed to go that day and the owner could not wait for the assembly to come in the next day.
