It would be nice if your videos said what the parts actually are called. Says to replace bolts and seals but no name or information on the parts specifications.

DO NOT TAP THE DUCKBILL SEALS WITH A SOCKET! Or anything at all for that matter, search for the video on how to properly install the seals. They are very easy to damage, and are very finicky. It's also extremely easy to strip the little bolt that holds the two lines to the rack. The bolt is going into aluminum, and you need to make sure the lines are perfectly lined up and seated properly before cranking down on that tiny little bolt.

What a great video. I have been watching several videos before attempting to replace the rack on my Chevy. This video describes everything you need to know before hand, including additional parts, tools and torque specs. Nothing worse than discovering you need another part not included in your purchase or not having the right tool in the middle of the job. Great work!

thanks for the video, pretty straightforward one thing i would avoid is taking off the plastic plugs BEFORE you mount the rack and pinion. they're there to keep rust and debris on the frame from falling into the holes and ending up in your hydraulic lines, ruining the pump or the rack and pinion those should only come out right before you are ready to put the lines back in and no earlier

Okay I have a question. The I see the two pinion lines one of the line that goes to the rack bar mine just popped off but it’s not damaged can’t I just get that small piece welded back on cause that’s what it look like it’s been welded on. To keep me from replacing the whole assembly because the whole part is really in still good condition

2 things to add. They don't show or state. But when turning the steering wheel to "bleed" the system it works best off the ground. Also to do a 4x4 u have to do alittle more wiggling around the front diff and remove the skid pan.

I've heard if the steering wheel is crooked significantly, it is certainly a problem w/power steering rack (as far as I understand the problem can't be fixed then just by simply moving in and out Outer Tie Rods in corresponding directions). Mine is crooked ~45 degrees to the right, no steering fluid leeks observed (I saw some fluid inside of the boot ~ 8 months ago, when changed Inner TR (on driver side only, on passenger it was dry), but I think it is very small, since the fluid level doesn't change). I don't remember when that problem w/crooked wheel developed, I don't drive that car a lot, but I hit a limiting concrete bar which they conveniently locate at some parking lot 4-5 days ago, and noticed 45 degrees after that event. So what can happen to a steering rack, what can be wrong, if no leak observed? And if the steering wheel is crooked, do you straighten the steering wheel before replacing the steering rack (then the wheels on the ground will be not straight)?

Question : My rack and pinion becomes "stiff" occasionally .... if I stop the engine, and re-start and drive, it's on again ......... then again, it becomes stiff intermittently. What could it be ? I think on my 2009 Equinox it's an electrical part, not hydraulic.

Nevermind. I found the part numbers. Have to order from GM dealership. Part numbers are 19167837 for long line and 19167838 for short line. These are called GM Pipe kit and are the hard lines on top of the rack. They come with new o-rings but is waste of time bc more than likely the rack shaft where the lines install are wore out. Better off buying the bullet and installing a new rack and pinion.

READ THIS BEFORE YOU DO THIS JOB: There are a lot of people on here that are clueless. I just did this on a 2011 suburban 4WD. First of, the Diff is not in the way at all, you do not have to take it off to get this done. The steering pinion rack assembly shown here does not come with the gaskets. I called around and finally found what the part number for the gasket is - 26100863. It's one part number for both holes. Now if you buy this rack assembly like I did on Amazon, and it is a genuine AC Delco remanufactured one, it already comes with the seals. Last thing I want to mention, when you are connecting the steering column to the rack, take a close look at the end of the rack that goes into the column and another close look at the end of the column. They are not perfectly circle and only go one way. If yours does not go in all the way but is already on partially, push in on the column from the hood, not from below. Don't yank the rubber like I did (I learned, mines now torn I got to buy a new steering rack). That is all I have. Job is fairly simple. I actually replaced the rack and pinion, the pump, all hoses and the cooler. If you have questions feel free to post here

There's some so called mechanics that still don't believe that the clock spring can be damaged if you don't tie down that steering wheel before removing and replacing the rack and pinion. I learned that valuable lesson the hard way by dealing with Pep Boys. It broke while I was driving. I was making a righthand turn when the steering wheel spun out of control in my but my car kept straight.

You are either trolling or you're a crazy person. A failing clock spring will not cause the car's steering wheel to no longer control the steering of the wheel. It's for the electronics on the steering wheel. If Pep Boys jacked up your clock spring, then the first is you wouldn't be able to turn your country music lower in volume or set the cruise control. If this is a true story however, then they didn't align the steering splined shaft into the shaft on the rack but you wouldn't have been able to even leave their lot like this. Your story is probably just made up anyway. XD

Hi Guys, need some help from all of you. I had replaced my Steering rack recently. Steps taken before installing it : 1) Removed the dust cover of the Rack shaft and centered the rack by turning the shaft to extreme left till lock and counting the number of turns to extreme right which was around 2.85. Hence turned back halfway approximately till about 1.42 and fixed the rack in that position into the subframe. 2)Before connecting the tie rods to the wheel knuckles, made sure that the wheels are straight ahead and equal number of visible threads were left on both the tie rods before connecting to the wheels, which would later be adjusted through wheel alignment. 3)All this while, the steering wheel is centered and locked to avoid damage to the clock spring. 4)Now the centered Rack is connected to the wheels through the tie rods and the steering wheel through the u joint. 5)Wheel alignment was performed and the result is Steering wheel was centering itself at 11’o’clock position on returnability. Thus, pulling the wheels along with the steering towards left and straight line tracking has become uncontrollable. 6)At this point, the turning radius from center to left lock is about an inch more than from the center to right lock. I opened the horn compartment on the steering to check if factory markings of the column were aligned with that of the steering wheel. Result being, they were absolutely aligned. 7)Then I moved the steering wheel one spline right. The result being, now I have equal turning radius from center to left and right lock. 8)Then, I again performed a wheel alignment with the steering wheel held in place straight ahead. 9)The result being, the steering wheel still is off- centre towards left at about 10° and still centers/returns at 11’o’clock position. Even if passed on a bump, the steering moves back to 11 ‘o’ clock.Car goes straight if steering held, between 11 & 12 o clock position. If steering is left loose, it again pulls to left and centers at 11 o clock. Hence, pulling the entire car towards left. Now I suspect this. Please correct me 1) Steering Rack is still slightly off centre towards left like about 10° ? (OR) WHAT COULD IT BE ?
