This was my Biggest Culvert replacement project I’ve done to date. I am extremely thankful for my new employee Brandon who exceeded my expectations in every way. So glad I found this channel! Most informative out there. Just started new small excavation business in March due to Covid. 2003 GMC Duramax, equipment trailer, & Yanmar Vio35 mini-ex. Great video as always... Relatively new to the excavating scene. Mostly into lot and land clearing. As well as sidewalk demolition caused by tree roots. I remove the damaged areas then grind out the tree stump. So your videos on covert drainage and installation are always top of my favorite videos. Soon ill be getting a mini loader with a flail mower attachment. So your fecon videos are a huge help. Watching different videos of methods as well as different attachments Is tremendous helpful . Watching the pros and cons.

You are doing a mighty fine job. Just started my excavation/concrete business 3 years ago and learn things every day. Keep up the good work!

That’s pretty cool man I you too land survey and would run across old property corners ones you wouldn’t expect to be there for instance a double barrel shotgun was sticking out of the ground I did not expect to find it but lo and behold it was there 4000 feet deep in the swamp. We installed 70 feet of 24 inch pipe this morning, a 30 foot stick and two twenties. I had to cut the home section from one of the twenties so I could use the 24 inch coupler with the three zip ties. That section I cut off is perfect to put in the bell end for pushing pipe together with a bucket.

ONE OF THE LITTLE TREASURES OF LIFE.

Todd, I sure do appreciate all your videos. My wife's grandfather put in a about 60' of galvanized pipe over 60 years ago on our property. The entrance side of the pipe had a flash board style riser welded to the end of the pipe so he could control the water level through the pipe. Do you think, if I am able to purchase a new flash board riser with a slightly smaller diameter plastic pipe and insert it into the existing pipe that is still good , I would be able to seal it up good enough to keep water from leaking around the joint. Push come to shove, I can dig it all out and replace all the pipe, even though it is still good. I am not trying to be cheap, I just hate to replace something that is still good, if I don't have to, your thoughts? Thanks.

Would 1 foot lifts and a tamper in the hole have worked better to prevent long term settling until the machines weight could be used to compact it?

That is a job well done! I enjoy watching your videos and learning new things. I do have a question for you, are you doing local work around your area or do you travel around to do work?

Why do you use rail road ballast on top of 3/4? Why not just fill it up with 3/4?

What does that fabric do?

Your joint pins on your boom are very loose might wanna get some new bushings/pins when they get worn the boom can become so sloppy that you will self correct (meaning you have a reaction to push the controls in the opposite direction) its hard on the hydraulics train yourself to be smooth on the controls turn down engine rpm a little will help you want your engine speed about to the point of jerkiness but under jerkiness when moving gravel/soil around i often see guys rev them high and fight the controls.. engine rpm gives you pressure at the cost of smoothness high rpm is good for hard digging or hard work like dragging or pulling a hard pull when your in a stationary position lower your pusher blade to "bite" into the ground an operator knows his machines after you work the sane machine you will know and learn to mesh with the machine and you will make secondary decisions automatic its kinda like learning the piano if its a rental well you know how rental tools/equipment goes wear hearing protection having a constant 80-90 decibels hitting your ear drums old or young isnt good i find i can think and run things better without noise and it gives much better situational awareness it also gets you in a good habit of looking versus the idea that you could hear a person in the swing box its a false sense many guys have been injured from approaching the equipment from the side not knowing the operator couldn't see or hear them any workers should be trained to approach from a forward looking directly at the operator just giving you some tips :)

It does thru you for a loop when things come full circle sometimes !! Kind of a time capsule of sorts

Hey Todd, I’ve got to put in 60 feet of 18 inch black plastic culvert for next job. Would you use two thirty foot pieces with a split coupler or three 20 foot bell and spigot pieces?

Sheltie I’ve never used 30 footers. I like the 20s with bell ends.

It takes 3 to 12 mo for that soil to settle after digging that deep.

I would like to see the equipment that the predecessor used to install this culvert.You do not know how easy you have it. Tinted glass, air conditioning. I also wonder how many men it took to due this task, and how long.I am glad that your new assistant is working out for you. Does driving "Orville Or Wilbur" require a CDL? Great video.Ken

Ken yep. They both require CDLs. I can’t reminder which piece of equipment he used. I think he did it by himself when he was 19 years old!!!

Wondering why you didn't just go with both full length sections instead of cutting some off one end and then added about that length back to the inlet end?

Asheville NC Trail Camera I like putting a solid section spanning the width of the travel portion of the road. Probably not necessary. Just one of my preferences.

I am sure with that deep a hole you need proper compaction. I fear that road will sink a lot over time.

Isn't it better to have the settling happen if it will settle evenly or plan to place bottom of pipe a few more inches deeper, with a few inches of sediment in the pipe, so that you have less chance of moving water eating at the base material at the leading edge of the flow into the pipe

Don't think we didn't notice the giant broom mic's poking in to capture the sound of the ballast. LOL!!

If you mean other contractors cutting the prices. I really don’t feel like it effects me that much. I provide itemized pricing that tells the customer exactly what they are getting and at what cost. I always encourage customers to request similar itemized quotes from other contractors. Sometimes I straight up get out bid and that’s fine. I have also won many bids even though I had a higher price; the customer either like me as a person more or I promised them a better job with a guarantee. You can only cut your on throat. You have to neither work too cheap but also not lose due to greed.
