It looks like the reason this starter has failed is due to the huge oil leak from the top of the engine. The 1.4 and 1.6 k4M engines are notorious for this and it is usually a simple fix. They often leak from the thermostat housing, it is plastic with a gasket that gets brittle with time. A whole housing and gasket is about £25 and a gasket alone is about £5. Easy to change, but you do need to partially drain the coolant. Probably worth changing anyway as it will likely have oil in it. This problem often results in mechanics misdiagnosing a cylinder head gasket failure, which hardly ever happens on these engines. People give these cars a hard rap but they are so often easy and cheap to fix once you know how.

How u check the engine starter on car? I have a problem with megane2 1.6 16V don't start anymore, tried with a good battery and same is died. Think is engine starter but not sure 🙄

The job of the starter motor is to turn the engine. 1st dose the engine turn over if yes then it's not the starter if no then it could be the starter. 2nd check if it is getting power to it when you turn the key. If you you are getting power to it and not turning over then posible starter. Another way to check if it's the starter is hit it with a hammer or a bar and turn the key see if it starts. Last bump start it if it's a manual, if it starts with a bump/push start then it's the starter

The Wife has this car and I was wondering if the starter could be replaced at home on the driveway. Obviously not.. Your assessment that these cars are Crap is highly accurate, ours has been a constant money pit with everything going wrong with it. Now, with a fully charged battery, clutch depressed and start button pushed, I can hear a faint clicking from behind the steering column plastic cover (Steering Lock solenoid?) and nothing else, I can only presume the starter motor is broken. Cannot do the hammer test as it is so well hidden.

You can replace the starter on the driveway. Firstly I would check the wiring is secure to the starter. You can get access to this underneath / through the right hand side wheel well. I had the same problem as you, turned out the wire was loose, but the starter was fine - fired up straight way one I nipped up the nut holding the main power wire to the motor.

Is this the same for a megane 2 1.9 dci?

It should be the same. But I think a little easier because of the bonnet design and engine layout

Thumb down for your comment about Renault Megane II. You should not judge something you obviously know very little about. I've got Megane I made in 2000 and this car is invincible, comfortable and it was safest car by NCAP in the world in its class. Side driver airbag in year 2000! Suspension is perfect, I've been driving this car on horrible, terror roads with huge potholes, or in countryside and nothing wrong with it for years. No sign of corrosion on a 20 years old car! Engine caused no problems, spare parts very cheap, most of things can be done by anyone with good manual skills. It's true some things are hard to reach, maybe difficult to remove, but compare this to some Audi cars, where you need to completely remove engine and all to change the cambelt, compare to Golf III that if you park on curb, the oil sump will crack (lol). Really I don't like when somebody talks shit about the excellent French cars and has no idea about them.

@@TEAMR4ULTV only fools think about speed, they are looking for fast ways to die, idiots driving 500 horse power cars in city centres where speed limit is 20mph.. for me good car is safe one and reliable, and Renault is second to none in this aspect. I forgot to add Megane I had shortest distance breaking for its time.

Like two spark plugs for each cylinder XD 50 computers XD its obvious they want to endlessly make lots of money in dedicated german garages and someone in the comments complaining about Renault, he must be extremely poor or has a mechanic that rips him off. I don't go to mechanics in UK or other western countries unless absolutely necessary because I know how they (not all) just want to make a fool of you.. for ex. 60 quid for oil change one of them asked me, another time 500 quid for clutch haha of course I did not let them fuck up my car just I was curious about prices. In my town in Poland my friend car mechanic will professionally do the clutch for 60 pounds and will be happy.
