After almost 9,5 years of operation, I had to change my battery of my 135i last saturday. In an E82 this is actually a lot easier and more accessible than an E90. Everything is in reach in the middle of the trunk. What I missed in your video is that you need to plug the other side of the vent opening on the battery when installing. Either take the plug from your old battery, or use the plug provided with the new battery to plug the vent hole that is not in use. There is one on either side of a battery. You plug the grey hose in the + side vent hole (9:00), bot say nothing about plugging the other hole. If you don't plug it, it could lead to venting unwanted gasses into the trunk. And registering the battery with MHD, as long as it is the same spec, is ridiculously simple and quick.

Discovered this and watched it this morning in the hope it could help me do mine... my stop start was hit and miss and getting worse over past 2 weeks...seemed flat when ignition kicked in, sometimes failed..Local garage said it needs to be registered which is that scan tool i assume and is prob worth investing in. Great video just need to try and find one in uk.

Not sure if it’s needed to do spark plugs, injectors, etc. I’ve been religiously following your videos and you’ve given me the courage to start work on my n54 e90 but something I’ve been pondering, worrying about possible shock. Going to replace my daughters X3 F25 battery, wondering if I place a battery charger on the connection point under the hood and then remove the battery will that same all her memory items in her car, yes I will protect the positive cable in the trunk not to short it out. Just wondering to save some time reprogramming , radio, seat and such. Then I can just register the battery with my Carly.

It allows the user to monitor lots of parameters, check fault codes, reset them, code multiple functions, etc. It's not perfect, sometimes frustrating, but it works. Oh and you can do it wirelessly with a bluetooth adapter.

Many questions after this video: you can do the registration with INPA, ISTA or NCS Expert and a generic OBD. Besides, you dont say how much time you must have the car turned on the first time so that the ECU measures correctly the SoH (state of health) of the battery. You dont cover as well whether to charge the new battery before installing it. It can be as low as 60%.

@@maceats4653 and just how does making it necessary to inform the vehicle's computer that the battery has been changed make it more "efficient"? I'm all for good technology making improvements to life, but German over-engineering rarely makes anything easier or efficient enough to justify the pains of ownership.

Thank you for the amazing video! I am having an issue right now with my 07 328i where my car won’t start. It came with an original bmw battery but when I replaced it(July 2017), I used a battery that was compatible with my car. When it was replaced I don’t believe it was reprogrammed to my car...could this be the issue. Your knowledge would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I'm in the middle of replacing my batter and the red power wire with the black connector came out from where ever it was connected to the vehicle. Any idea where it goes?
