HOW TO REPLACE REAR DRUM BRAKES ON A 2006-2011 HONDA CIVIC

Ойын-сауық

In this video we are replacing the rear driver side drum brakes on a 2007 Honda Civic LX Sedan model. This pertains to the 8th Generation Honda Civic from 2006-2011 model years that have rear drum brakes. This is our first time replacing rear drum brakes on this Honda Civic. If you haven’t replaced your rear drum brakes for awhile it will be quite a challenge as we struggled trying to remove the rear driver side brake drum. Once removed, we replaced the brake shoes as well as the failed wheel cylinder. The rear wheel cylinder was the root of the problem due to one of the seals failed leaking brake fluid. Since we replaced all the necessary parts, the brakes are now working fine and we are glad to share with you our experience with this video!! We hope that this video at least educates fellow 8th Generation Honda Civic owners on how to replace their rear drum brakes. Thanks for watching!!

Parking brake is not on and the drums wiggle, but will not come off the studs.

Thanks for the content information. I'm going through this right now. I'm trying to figure out. Should I get an expensive Honda wheel cylinder or aftermarket?

Hi Trin sorry for the delayed response. Well we replaced ours with an aftermarket wheel cylinder and have had no issues ever since. So that’s our experience so far and car is braking fine with no leaks of whatsoever. Soon we will provide links in the description to where you can purchase these parts if needed. We appreciate you watching our video and hope this helps.

Brake pads have the difference between the left and right?

If you mean the “brake shoes”. You can possibly flip each side however the upper and lower part of the brake shoe has to be seated and positioned at a certain orientation in order for them to function and perform the way it should.

Another tip I removed the 4 main bolts in the back, then the hub was easier to take off by beating it down with it being off

May I suggest using 2 1 1/2 M8 fully threaded bolts to remove the brake drums it’s so much easier and you won’t damage the drums or back plate as these 2 bolts are threaded into the brake drum holes and slowly alternate tightening these 2 bolts pushing out the drums

I just replaced one side of the brake drum as of now, but when I test drove it there was grinding noise which is coming from the drum to the hub. Even when I rotate it manually I can hear it, and when I remove the drum I can see metal flakes all over. Also my brake seems too lose which I'm guessing I need to make the groove tighter. Does anybody know what I might have done wrong for it to grind?

Is the dust plate bent? You may want to check that to make sure. It might have slightly bent due to the install. Otherwise you may need to have a mechanic look at it to diagnose the issue.

@@Firm400 I appreciate the feedback , so the grinding is coming from two contacts of the brake shoes to the inside of the brake drum. Not sure why because the brake shoes don’t go back any further

@@haithams3168hmm perhaps the complete brake shoes assembly wasn’t put back properly? You may need to double check the assembly if that’s the case or reference to the other side. That’s why for this install we filmed and took pics of the assembly before removing anything so that we can refer to its original placement. Hope it gets resolved.

Thanks for the reply and I figured it out. At the bottom where the notch is I placed the shoes in front of the notch instead of behind it , so that was pushing the shoes forward and grinding on the inside of the brakes. I appreciate your help.
