In todays video we fix my dads nbs gmc sierra. The pinion seal has been leaking for some time and we finally get the time to fix it. This video shows how to replace the rear pinion seal in a Chevrolet silverado and gmc sierra. This works on many years and if your rear end is leaking this may be your issue and fix. This is a common spot the silverado and sierra rear end leaks and is a cheap and easy fix. It can be replace in your driveway or on a lift like we used. This process will also work to replace pinion seal or fix leaks on Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade. This is the easiest video on how to replace rear pinion seal on youtube in my opinion. Its nice to help my Dad since he is always helping me.

Very informative Mr T. I have to do this on the WS6, it went bad when I dropped the suspension. Pinion angle way off, addressing this issue with BMR products, adjustable torque arm, LCA relocation brackets, etc....

I put a junkyard axle gt8 g80 optioned and it needs one of these seals badly it leaked about 8 ounces of diff fluid in just a couple months time and that's cause I don't even drive it often I was debating whether or not to take it to my mechanic but, this seems like an easy enough job for me just need to rent a puller though thanks for the vid brother!!

Good video. I'm glancing at this because I haven't done one in ~30 years and mine is leaking (former GM Master Tech) and I'm just looking for a refresher on fastener sizes and such. Mine is leaking by the splines, as evident that the nut is shiny. The tip I have is to use Loctite teflon pipe thread sealer on the pinion splines before reassembly. It might eliminate a come-back.

@@TWAMotorsports No it wasn't too bad. I ended up taking the rear diff cover off, and noticed one of the spider gears had a couple chipped teeth. I still need to go back and fix that though. I bought the truck about 15 years ago with 65k miles on it and now it has just shy of 240k. Still stock 4.3. Been wanting to do an LS swap and lower it for several years now, but haven't gotten around to it. Maybe someday. Its been a good truck though, people ask me all the time if its for sale.

Dirt gets between body and panel. Add a little water and boom.
I got a 92 Chevy 4.3 v6 well it belonged to my pops and he messed up the seal and replaced it but didn't do it correctly, he was dying and wasntv in his right state of mind well I got the driveshaft off the truck and didn't know anything about aligning it up but I'm trying to figure out if I should drain the oil completely and replace it or just fill it up? Also I'm not sure how much torque I put on that nut that holds the yolk onto place? The parts I have right now are new including the nut.

I took my 2006 Silverado 1500 to a shop about 7 months ago and paid them to replace this seal. Now, I noticed a few days ago it started leaking again. I assumed they checked the bearing and the pinion yoke. It didn't leak right away, so maybe it is just a faulty seal or installation issue? It is under warranty yet and should be able to take it back, but what do you think about this?

What the “thread count”?
@TWAMotorsports

Probably different on each
I’m not understanding, the manual asks you to document the breaking torque (I work in an Industry that is torque dependent). Breaking torque is a qualitative value as it’s not a constant. I have a decade of research proving breaking torque is qualitative. This is my question, what is the torque speck for this bolt? I understand counting the threads. Wtf is the center bolt torque value?
