You do no have to remove the steel door panel. Drill out the rivet . Take the lock and door rods loose. Put it back together.. Done!!!

Lisle makes a nifty trim pry tool. Like a bent really wide spade screwdriver that has a slot cut out of the middle of the blade (so you can slide it around a trim snap/fastener). has a red handle and a black rubber fulcrum that slides up and down the shaft. Ingenious tool, i have used it for all kinds of stuff beyond what it's meant for. But trim is a breeze with it.

What size rivet is it? You use a 1/8" drill bit to take it out, but is that also size of the new rivet, or do you install a smaller one considering the expansion?

What is the rivet size used to replace factory one?

98’ Silverado. Having to do this same thing….video was clear and gave great step by step instructions. One thing I’ve noticed is parts are sometimes hard to come by. Where did you get your door lock assembly?

Those metal ones snap off the same mine had those when I bought it and after a few months of owning it it just snapped

There’s a link in the description to the door handle. The speakers are standard size replacement speakers that I bought from Crutchfield. I think I could’ve fit bigger ones in there.

Do you take them both completely out

I dont have a bunch of loose bolts and nuts laying around to replacs the rivet. Would it be noticeably loose if I leave that empty?

I think it will slide forward and back a little bit so probably just get annoying definitely would just try to find a nut and bolt

When replacing the new one does it make a difference if the lock is down or up..thanks in advance

It doesn't matter. The rod that connects to the door lock slider can be moved by hand to either the locked or unlocked position.

We're back! Dude we just changed our handle and the one BIG (to us) problem we had was getting the electrical fittings to come apart. Could you maybe ponder a class on how to release different connectors for us old farts who don't know how? Thanks!

I got mine off using a grinder for part of it, then a screwdriver and hammer for the rest

I just bought the generic one at AutoZone. For a big rivets, you have to buy an extra large sized rivet gun.

Spray the clips with silicone spray to make them not rattle

Gmc put that plastic around the handle,,I don't think that plastic will ovoid any water from getting wet,

So annoyed with my door handle now. If I ask my boyfriend to fix it he's gonna break something else. Ugh. If I take it to the shop they're gonna charge an arm and a leg and my bf will say "I can do that for free"🙄 Planning on doing it myself just gotta buy the door handle

Thanks. My son had coronavirus, and he was running the camera. Somehow I didn’t catch it though. Our neighbors knew we were sick, so we had to keep the masks on when we were out in the driveway.
