    I was wrong in the video, you do NOT need to separate the battery from the cartridge.

    It's OK, man. I decided independently to try doing it without pulling it out, to see if I needed to try it the way you suggested. It worked without doing that, but I probably would have struggled to free the battery without your help nonetheless. Thanks for the video. It's still really helpful, even if you want to retract previous advice.

    Great instructions! I just replaced mine. I have a couple of things to add: The battery replacement was very easy with one of my key fobs. But when I opened the second one, that rubber retainer fell out & all those little indicator tabs fell out. It took some time to figure out that one of them (the "unlock" one) goes on the outside of the fob. And my fobs were very difficult to pry open.

    My finger was not strong enough to push the tab so I used the screw driver to push the tab instead of my finger. Hope it helps someone who also have this problem. Also as someone else in the comment already said. There is a slot for your keys to insert into to split the fob. It felt much safer than using your hands.

    I tried to use the key in the slot... didn't work for me, I had to use a screw driver... but I have old lady hands - a bit before I'm an official old lady though. Ah heck, I had old lady hands in my 20s when it was my job to test these things before they went into production.... engineers laughed/freaked because I couldn't push the buttons - I pointed out that if I couldn't then the little old ladies that were the target market for the vehicle in question wouldn't be able to either (late 90s Chrysler land yacht). A bit of reengineering prior to production occurred... and yes you can now blame me if late 90s era Chryslers have too many inadvertent activations, my thumbs would NOT push them when they first designed that batch.... OK its late and my battery is replaced Clearly I'm running off at the mouth and need to sleep to recharge my filters.

    @@gotdemo They need to be tight so that when you drop it in a puddle it keeps working and you don't have to drop a couple hundred on a replacement. it is deliberately difficult but it is for your benefit, not so much the dealership. I worked at one of the big automotive remote companies for 8 years... the manufacturers marked those things up insanely to the dealership then the dealership marked them up insanely again. Like we charged one of the big 3 (back when there was a big 3) about $7/remote They charge the dealership about 10x that and then the dealership charged 2x that! That was for the dealership and Mfgr's benefit.

  • @laurahenning5531

    @laurahenning5531

    Not really. One likely gets used a lot more than the other. - unless your working from the car informing you the battery is low - which might actually trigger off how old the car is/how many miles it has on it. The car does know both these things about itself and the designers might have decided that avoiding drama of keyless vehicles not starting was better than squeezing every ounce of battery life. The circuits might be smart, or the software might be smarter.
