Twist it left and right. Use a towel to do it so it doesn't hurt your palms.

I had a friend ask me how to change the bulbs in his 2017 Elantra. I wasn't sure for the new cars (retired as a mechanic in 1985 with a back problem) so I used my KZreadFu to find you. As we talked, I found your vid online and sent it to him. He'll try it himself instead of letting a mechanic charge him a lot for it. // On my 2007 Tundra, I had to move the battery 2" backward for the driver side high beam. and move the washer tank to get the passenger side done. Only took half an hour, but a PITA.

Good video. It took less than 5 minutes to make the change. I did use a flathead screwdriver to help pop the cover off instead of a key.

Excellent tutorial, thank you! If you are doing the driver side low beam that is the hardest one because of the box directly behind the headlamp. If you have small hands it might be easier but I have big hands and it was not easy!

Yes you are correct. I was able to do it since I have smaller hands and I was only able to get my hand in there, it wasn't possible to get the camera in there and my hand in there at the same time.

I've been trying to get my driver side low beam bulb changed for several days and no one has been able to do it. I'm really dreading taking it to the dealer. They take all day even if you have an appointment. I'm going to get my husband to watch this, he's already tried it once.

Thank you for the detailed instructions, I just changed both low beam bulbs!!! To hopefully help clarify, when twisting the cover off the low beam, turn it to driver side or away from passenger side. turning "left" made me wonder if I was suppose to face the car because cover won't budge for a few minutes.

I added silicone grease to those cap gaskets, protects that rubber O"ring and eases removing that cap. If you don't, that 65 watt bulb will bake on that cap and you will never get it off. You need a good seal, bulb heats the the air inside the assembly and if any leaks our, creates a vacuum that sucks in moisture when it cool down. A wet inside housing sure blocks the light output. Sylvania XtraVision's cost a few cents more and are 30% more brighter and also last a long time, I average about 8-9 years and do a lot of night driving. Carry spare bulbs in the trunk and a flash light just in case. Also carry spares for all running lights such as parking, directional, and license plate. Need a 10 mm nutdriver for the rear tail lamps. That can also use silicone on that front rubber seal to make it easier to pull out. If you replace your lamps with other than what your owners manual calls for, you are accepting the liability and may not even be covered by that other guys insurance company that hit you. Crooks will do anything to avoid a claim.

Lol. It ain't that bad. worst case you won't be able to get that dust cover off. Plenty of people have watched this video and replaced their bulbs successfully. Give it a try!

I use SuperLube Synthetic Grease with PTFE. It's a bit less nasty than silicone but provides the same long-lasting slickness you need for apps like this.

Tip for taking off the covers on each light: use a flat head screwdriver and a small hammer to twist off/on the caps. I was trying to remove them with just my bare hands for like 20 minutes. Even tried using a crescent wrench. Ended up damaging one of the fins and both my thumbs. Then I switched to a flat head and hammer, it was off in like three seconds 😑

Just wiggle the cap a few times (left-right-left-right), may take a minute or two but eventually it will come loose. To make it easier on your hands use a towel to do so.

The only real tip is to use a rag or towel to grip the cover and undo it. I remember when I did the first time, I thought I was going to break something, because it just wouldn't come off and it was hard on my palm. I then grabbed a towel and used that to twist it and eventually it came off. It's not the most accessible place and the moisture that's there doesn't make it easy either.

Nice video, very well explained, im having trouble trying to remove driver side cap since it is really tight. ( I could remove the passenger side, I was able to use 2 hands) is there any tools or something I can use to remove the cap of driver side? Thanks

Unfortunately I don't know of any specific tools you could use for this job. Putting a towel on the cap and forcing the cap, left, right, left, right for a few minutes should make it easier to come off and be easier on your hands as well.

Good video . The drivers side low beam bulb is a biatch to get out , very little hand room , do-able but barely and i don't have big mitts. Also the black cover only turns a little bit probably less than 1/8th of a full rotation

Apply alternating force, left --> right --> left ---> right, and keep at it for a few minutes, it should come off eventually. I know it sounds like a hassle but unfortunately sometimes it just gets stuck.
