Yes, I agree, I did it just like that, shifting gears is much better I used Millers Oils EE Transmission 75W90, GL4/5 - super, just one IMPORTANT thing - firstly you must unscrew the filling plug, not the drain plug, because might happen you drain your old oil, and won´t be able to fill in the new one!!! (rust, etc...) sometimes it happens...so first filling plug, than drain your old oil out from your gear box!!! Enjoy, people who like taking care of your engine-pets :-)

For future reference, I have a 2002 Toyota Echo with a manual transmission (standard shift), which is very similar to the Toyota Yaris, and this was my experience: The fluid capacity is 1.9 quarts of conventional gear oil 75w-90 (MUST BE GL-4 and/or GL-5 compatible) (synthetic is not forbidden, but double expensive-- and from what I've collectively read-- unnecessary) I'm 225lbs, and I did not need to jack my car up, or remove the air box-- I was comfortable just reaching under the front left side of the car to access both plugs and change the gear oil on my flat tar driveway Remove the plastic splash guard that's in the way (mine required a 10mm socket) Both plugs are 24mm Both plugs have a washer-- don't lose either washer in your drain pan Remove the upper fill plug first, then the lower drain plug (if you don't, the old oil doesn't drain out as well or as fast) I used a funnel inserted into a 3' piece of rubber tubing (looked tight to get the whole pointy topped gear oil quart to fit right) It is NOT "spill and fill" (so put 2 quarts in and THEN STOP!!!!!!)

Thank you a lot for your video, it might be super helpful for me to help a friend with her car maintenance. I just have a silly question, do you remember by any chance what kind/size of seal/washer is needed for the gearbox plugs? So I can replace them in the process. Went to change my 02 yaris clutch, asked to get the gearbox oil changed as well, smug guy told me it's not meant to be changed, I said I know that but still I'd rather have it changed almost 150.000 km, but they didn't change it. Now I guess I'll try to do it myself.

thanks for the answer Peter, can I ask you something? I have a Toyota Avensis Diesel 90k miles and the 2nd gear is hard to engange, I was thinking to replace the oil , but was thinking to replace all oil to see if it resolves my issue. What do you think?

I did the same thing. Only difference was during oil change the vehicle was on axle stands and elevated. I got 2 litres in and tightened the bolt. So my question is this. Does it matter whether the vehicle is on stands or level on the ground?

In case of C53A (MMT) gearbox... 1.9L of 75W GL4 oil...you can go away also with 75w80 GL4 oil...be sure that you will not use GL5 oil otherwise changing gears will became a little notchy...

Peter Finn the guy asked why it was automatic transmission oil in the car before you changed (red oil). I presume.

At 13:23 he says that: The torque is 40-50Nm ? Is that accurate?

Hi, if You need a really accurate amount, look from service manual or Haynes handbook.

The Toyota manual for the C50 Manual Transaxle (specifically on a 2007 Yaris) states 39N.m / 29ft.lb for both the 24mm plugs discussed here.

1.8 USA quarts is about 1.6 British quarts

For the Yaris 1 (05 year) with 1SZ-FE Engine is 1.4 litre.

i use CVTF TC ( T/G)

You should always undo the top up nut first before you drain the oil and lower the car so you can drain the oil out. Yo6 need some lessons
