This is my favorite washer ever. My MAH4000AWW, is coming up on 22yrs old in July. I bought it used from a family of 6 back in 2013. They were the original owners and she said they never had anything done to it. I changed the belt on it when I bought it, as it was slipping. I took it apart to clean the drum, bellow, etc, (DIRTY) and it's worked like a charm ever since. The clothes are squeaky clean, and it uses plenty of water. I had my appliance guy come give it the once over and he said the machine looked perfect. Still has the original bearings. Too bad Maytag made two relatively minor, yet very costly, design mistakes. The tub light should have gone out on its own after a minute or two, so the door could be left ajar, (I took my bulb out) and that weird, gross, brush thing on the outside of the tub, that collects lint and has no way of disposing of it. I guess another 'flaw' for the whole frontload come-back in the early 90's, was they didn't educate people, nor did they design for, to keep the darn door ajar. I've had a frontloader (Westinghouse, Weigh-To-Save! LOL) most of my life and I have never once had mold or mildew or any funky smells. Take two seconds to wipe the bellow, leave the detergent door open and the washer door ajar. That's it.

Maybe you can help me with this one: I love the Neptune! I love the silent motor on my 5500 but I love the styling of the 3000. Is it possible to put a 5500 motor (and I guess board) on a 3000?

Is it fine when I turn the belt that it stays on but it’s more towards one side than the other? I have it exactly centered on the motor.

Nice washer. I'd love to hear this thing running on the sturdy cottons AKA normal cycle.

I've had over 25 front-load washers in my time (I have a thing for appliances and used to collect them) and I can honestly say, the Neptune is the best washer, by far, that I have ever owned. You are right, I have never not had a stain come out in this washer. It will be carefully maintained for another 22yrs. If only...

I saw this washer and Frigidaire in 1999 at Circuit City. I was not happy with the top loaders that were on the market, at that time, it was just these 2 brands. I couldn't afford the Maytag, because it was $1000. Even if could have been able to buy it, I was turned off by no window on the washer. Low sudsing detergent wasn't available I my area until 2001, and was limited to just Tide and Wisk. It was $12 back then, and wasn't until 2008, before other brands became available, and cost was in line with regular detergent. So I bought the Frigidaire model in 1999, and had it for 13½ years. I miss that washer, as it had a mechanical timer, had a warm rinse option (where I live, cold water gets too cold in the winter to rinse out detergent properly), and for a wash, spray rinse during the draining of the wash water, and 3 short rinses, only used 18 to 27 gallons, depending on weight and fabric, and only took 40 to 50 minutes to do a load of clothes. My current washer, an entry level LG takes at least an hour to do a load of clothes with a wash, and 3 rinses (I have to manually set it to add an additional rinse). I also had to adjust the water level on my LG to use more water. Now when I bought my Frigidaire in 1999, the manual stated to use half the amount of regular detergent. If it called for 1 cup, it said to use no more than ½ cup. ½ cup, use ¼ cup. I ended up at times buying smaller bottles, because I couldn't use the detergent fast enough.

Me, too. If I apply external tension (pull on the belt a bit) it'll stay centered, but otherwise starts going crooked immediately, and within a turn is off.

@@LorainFurnitureandAppliance well I have a Maytag impeller washer that I was talked into by a sales guy. $700 worth of buyers remorse as it doesn’t rinse soap or lint away. Still can’t believe I bought it. I’m interested in one of the LG front loaders you sell,do you by chance have a model with the Turbowash? I’d like to keep it under $1000 if possible. Thanks for the videos you make.

@@Brownie-tg3nu Neptune frontloader was introduced in 1997, some years before Whirlpool bought Maytag in 2006. There were several changes on the Neptune design throughout the course of production. The true Maytag Neptunes are models 3000, 4000, 5500, 6500, and 7500. There were larger-capacity Neptunes (pre-Whirlpool) of different model numbers and aesthetic styling that Maytag sourced from Samsung.

Until 2000, this was a real Maytag. From 2001 to 2006, Maytag switched the Neptune's to be made by Samsung. 2006 was when Maytag went bankrupt, and Whirlpool bought them out. Since 2007, Maytag appliances have been made by Whirlpool. Since Whirlpool took over Maytag, I no longer see Roper appliances, which was their low end brand, and switched it to Amana. Maytag is between Whirlpool and Kitchenaid . I'm not sure of the word, but I'm thinking mid-premium, as it's a step up from Whirlpool, but lower than Kitchenaid. Quality isn't necessarily better, but will offer more features from Whirlpool.

@@DADoESofTX I was actually just reading about the Neptune last night. Apparently the Neptune was the beginning of the end for Maytag. It was a crappy product the was poorly engineered which happens, and could have been remedied and Maytag didn’t want to take responsibility for it,and instead wanted their customers to pay for the repairs. I don’t know if whirlpool was ever a good product, although they made some pretty good top loader direct drives, and they also made Kenmore for Sears. But whirlpool even managed to make kitchenaid crap.
