Can 100% confirm you can remove the manifold with turbo attached, just have to remove the driveshaft. Saves so much heart ache, as I had a rouge nut also.

Just stripped my accord down today after watching this vid last night. Was dreading the turbo bolts but after removing the cat I noticed that my dewalt impact wrench could fit in with a 14mm deep impact socket. Whacked all 3 off no probs. Hope this helps others. Big build tomorrow. Thanks for your vid. 👍

Really enjoyed this video. As you explanation and tone of voice really described the frustration you can face with rusty bolts and parts being inaccessible. Great job, it looked like a real battle. Hope I can have a ago one day on my car. Egr valve cleaning for me.

Great video the first one I've seen on this. I have a civic with a leaky manifold which is probably more restricted than yours !

Yeah I was thinking to do this and port and polish, or to fill with manifold gum sealer. Definately doing the latter now!

It’s Amazing my 2005 Honda Accord ictdi model had same problem. I could smell smoke in cabin. I rang head office and complained carbon monoxide was getting into my cabin. Also told them had kids and would take them to court. Head office took it seriously and in 2015 my car went in and they replaced my cracked manifold. I think the cars mileage was about 90,000 I did not pay a penny towards the cost. Honda paid for it all. The bill would have been £780 including manifold. Use the brain muscle and not the arm muscles.

Thank you so much for this. Have to do that in mine too I think as I can smell the smoke in the cabin, but just slightly. Also I don’t know if the following problem is because of that but at a high revs there’s a type of wishing high pitch noise coming from the driver side(U.K.) I’ve heard some people mentioning that can be a bearing about to get retired but I have no idea which one can be, also my fuel consumption has increased dramatically for no reason, last year I could get a 60mpg easily, now barely I make 45mpg. Too many problems to go to a mechanic as it’s going to be unaffordable. Well I’ll get on with it, wish me luck xD

Finishing this job on my 1998 Honda Accord LX has been a pain. One bolt broke and the other was stripped by someone trying to help me take the broken bolt off. The car is so old that more bolts keep breaking. Why? Had to replace the the rusted engine crossmember, the catalytic converter, and exhaust flex pipe. The work requires a lot of patience. Thanks for the video.

I feel your pain! I have finished a big overhaul of a 2.2 i-CTDi CR-V Mk3 and it included the turbo. At the time I had the rear and timing-case engine mounts off, so I could move it up and down on a crane. Only now have I found that there are fumes coming up from the rear somewhere. I hope to g^& that it isn't the manifold, as I can't face undoing all my lovely work. I watched this in the vain hope that there was going to be a magical way to do it. There isn't!

For anyone who thinks he is joking when he says its brutal its really is the 3 bolts on top part of the cat the top 2 are easy its the lower third nut is hard to remove once the cat is off i found that slide the manifold off and tilt so the 3 bolts that hold the turbo to the manifold are up facing you then a breaker bar with 2 long extensions on easier to remove 2 losened off easier the 3rd snapped 🤣 then the rest is pritting straight forward. Back to the cat if you cant get it with a socket or spanner use a dremmel cut it off dont worry about the bolt as the top 2 hold it tight enough it took me 3 days and thats the biggest job ive everdone on a car any questions dont be affrade to messgae me on facebook neal g d gray

@@Acercatemami I have a friend who owns a garage so I hopefully should get a good price for that job. I'm just getting round too fixing other things on the car at the moment. The accord I got has 236k miles on the clock lol but pretty much drives like new.

I have recently changed my exhaust manifold on Accord 2.2 ctdi, and it was realy shitty work. The hardest part is to losen the turbo bolts and, these oil and coolant bypas lines are pain in the ass, be careful not to drop the O-Ring gaskets. Anyway it took me 7 Hours. Do not forget to check if oil or coolant are leaking after.

No need, go buy a metal gasket from Honda, you'll need the turbo one and cat exhaust gasket as well.

You can only do the Accord's manifold from the top of the engine. On the Civic, you must drop the subframe.

  • @mrpat2563

Bad design by honda They should of used a single piece manifold in the first place instead of this nasty two piece with lots of welds which are going to fail. I think for some customers they did fail prematurely very early in their life and Honda replaced with little or no cost to the customers.. But only if the car had a service history! Not that it had anything to do with servicing!
