Thank you for your video. Very good English and description. I've just changed mine in around 2.5 hours. Hopefully this will stop my oil leak and milky coolant. Thought head gasket was gone at first and was ready to scrap the car. Where is my best place to drain the coolant after a few drives to clear emulsified crap. I'm selling car and don't want people to think head gasket also. Thank-you

Gracias por el video. Yo tengo el mismo problema y no sabía que el aceite venía en el refrigerante por la culpa del termostato. Buen trabajo 👍

i seem to have a small oil leak for the past 2 years its passed its M.O.T with oil leak but not excesive as advisory. I was looking under the bonet and found a small puddle right where the thermostat housing is and seems to spread all over the engine cleaarly from driving the vehicle and the wind blows it everywhere so makes it harder for me as a non mechanic to diagnose, do you think it could be the same problem, i hope so anyway lol.

Probably, this is the 3rd time I replace a thermostat gasket, 1st one was leaking out going to the inner side(back side) of the engine, traveling down to the lower part including the drive shaft.

Does anyone know where to buy only the gasket for the housing. This video is also for Renault Clio 4. The whole housing is unnecessarily to change only the gasket, if not a crack.

Great stuff, mate. Isn't there a second bleed point on the heater matrix line? Did you bleed this too or is it not needed?

When you rev up the engine you will hear the slushing water behind the dashboard, make sure the coolant tank is full, make few revs until you dont hear the slushing (air pockets)

Most probably, milky oil is a sign of coolant and oil mixed up

After this change do you know if the oil reappeared in the coolant or was this a good fix? Cheers

I will reappear as ther are some oil left in the cooling system. You have to change coolant again after couple of drives

what cleaner was used? Brake cleaner? I have oil in my expansion tank

Yup, and degreaser. Cleaned the expansion tank with hot water and dishwasher pods. After installing new gasket there will be oil still in the cooling system, you will notice it in coolant tank, you might need to clean expansion tank twice after.

Could this cause oil to leak out from the thermostat location?

  • @mbl-randomdiy6024

Yes, it could leak internally mixing with coolant, or leak externally.

Very often and it is a common problem, There is a gasket failure on the termostat housing. You can actually see the leak on the housing. Try first to wrench all the screws to 10-11 NM but be careful when doing this.
