    Not so easy unless you place the filters in exactly the right spot within the compartment. So I will share two pieces of info from own experience changing these filters: (1) Pay attention to the directional arrows on the filter frames to make sure the filters are facing in the right direction. The arrows must point to the front of the vehicle. The element with the foam strip is the upper element. The foam strip must be on top. (2) The filter compartment is considerably wider than the thickness of the filter elements themselves. Install the filters as far toward the rear of the vehicle as possible within the filter compartment. (3) The upper filter will generally not stay in place while you slide the lower filter underneath it. Be prepare to twist yourself into a pretzel in the floor of your car so you can hold the upper filter in place while sliding the lower filter underneath.

    The wide lip on the filter goes on the right side of the vehicle, if you kneel in the doorway, you can hold your hand against the firewall to hold the first filter up while you slot in the second filter. If you discover your car doesn't have a filter, reach in towards the shifter and pull any leaf litter out before you put the filters in.

    Thank you for your post. It was very helpful. Even so, I think it might be improved with a little more detail about the installation of the upper filter. The upper filter install is quite tricky. The filter slides into the housing fairly easily, but pushing it upward and locking it in position is the tricky part. To push it upward, I had put my whole hand into the housing to maneuver the filter so it stays square to the side and top of the housing. To lock the filter to the top of the housing, the thin front edge of the filter has to fit squarely into a slot at the back of the housing. When the upper filter is locked in place, the second filter slides underneath it. It is helpful pair up the upper and lower filters prior to trying to install them to appreciate how the two filters fit together.

  • @TDLDIY

    @TDLDIY

    4 жыл бұрын

    If the fan is making noise could be debris in the air filter area or that got sucked up in around the fans. That the best case. vacuum should be able to fix that. If the fan doesn't spin up when you change speed dial could be your blower motor resistor. but that doesn't sounds like the issue. If the sounds gets lounder when you turn up the fan speed control then you probably need a new blow motor. I had to replace one on my brother in laws 2010 mazda 3 I have a couple videos on it. If your not too handy you can take it to a dealer or shop.but it wont be cheap. if your able and are machinally inclined then I have used a blower motor from rockauto.com they are cheaper then dealer ones. I will say it's a bit of a pain to change. I hope this information helps you out.

    I replaced mine today... I have not replaced them since I bought the car almost 5 years ago... I haven't noticed any bad odors, and the volume of air coming out (and cold a/c) seems perfectly adequate. But... they were filthy -- and had bits and pieces of leaves on the one side. When I took the cover off (with the 2 screws), a small pile of leaves fell out.. lol In all honesty, though, there doesn't seem to be a big difference in the amount of air coming out of the vents... but for breathing purposes , I'm glad the new ones are in. :^) As for mileage, I think I am around 65,000 miles.

    The Cabin filter is mainly just for the air quality you breath in. And its good to replace it for that reason but also replacing it you would be able to see any build up of leaves and other stuff that could possible be sucked up into the Blower motor and possible cause damage. Also then that material will then be push out the vents into your car/ face.

    Yes That will happen sometimes and its kinda sucks but if you can kinda hold it up and slide the bottom piece in it work. sometimes you get lucky and the top one stays up. Sorry for not saying which one is top and which is bottom alot of the time the filter you buy has instructions as well to indicate which is which, or might be marked.

    I bought it for 5k by some sketchy dealer, it has a rebuilt title, the brown paint doesn’t match the original brown colour, it has the GS trim, I guess the base one, and it barely had 60 000 miles if I remember, I knew something happened with that car but it looked straight and ready for couple more years, now has almost 176 000 miles and holding great.

    @@TDLDIY No. Very different design. The design is as though you took the doubled up filter you show here and glue them together side by side. The filter seat is accessible from the glove box, no removing panes or even any screws. It's just not worth shipping an $8 filter back. Maybe I'll just give it to someone I know with a more recent model. But at least your video saved me the trouble of finding out the hard way. I would have wasted my time taking things apart, since I don't have the right filter. Filters, actually.

    Mazda and kinda tricky but they are not bad cars at all, I had couple of Mazda’s and I own couple GM’s built in the early 2010s and the air filter on my Equinox V6 and Colorado are right behind the glovebox, takes me 3 minutes, very simple, I never had problems with GM products as well as Mazda, I had a rust bucket 2003 Toyota Echo, easy to work on but looked like shit, boring to drive. I don’t like how they look, I always see elderly people and soccer moms and dad in their 40s driving them no offence. But it is what it is.

    you were not able to change out the cabin filter? You have to ensure the filters are in the correct orientation there is one for top which normally it stats and the other is the bottom. you have to pay attention to the air flow direct normally indicated by an arrow.

    Seriously creator of this misleading, upper portion cannot be hold they way he is showing, you have to find holes which need to push inside so that upper filter can be hold, otherwise due to gravitational force it will come down. 1) filter which is having Foam part will be on top (it will go upward direction) 2) upper portion needs to put in into its slider which is on the left side then slide upward (make sure upper filter must be in its slider on left side) and then push into its holes which will help to hold upper portion. 3) if upper filter is not in hold position in its holes then down filter cannot be slide amd fixed in its place. Best way is to lay down inside and use both hand with the help of flash light. Time approx 15min if u manage to hold upper filter other wise you will spend hours and job will not be done.

    at 1:14 you will see 2 screws. BUT...there may be a maximum of 4. 2 at the bottom and 2 at the top. If you're lucky, there will be 2 at bottom, and 1 at the top. I had 2 at bottom and 1 at top. Btw, 1 of the 2 top spots will be hidden. And another one will be SUPER easy to get to. If you encounter that Harder one. Get your smartphone out. Put into video mode and pan it over that area to see where it is. Then later, after replacement. You can actually use the EASIER to get to of the top screw in spots and use that one instead to hold down the top part of the frame. Also makes it easier in the future to get to that one when you want to replace the filter again....
