you should have mentioned that Asus and Asrock board capacitor polarity is reversed. White marked area on PCB is positive, while Unmarked is Negative

This video has been most helpful, I need to replace a bad cap on an old server motherboard, the cap has been leaking brown stuff. I have one question tho, how do you measure a bad capacitor? Sometimes the cap is not leaking or the top is not bulging, but I guess it can also be bulging on the sides? Thanks again for the tutorial! P.s. are you Polish?

Hi...my motherboard capacitor has leaked a white stuff like veins.. is it normally happened? Or it was shorted?

I disagree that using wick or a sucker is the best way to clear the old solder out of the holes in order to insert the new cap legs. Using the paper clip that solder won't stick to is the best way. I wish I would have watched your video before I replace the caps on the last few graphics boards. I had one hell of a time clearing the solder out with wick and/or suction. In fact this is the only reason I was reviewing many videos on replacing the caps to see if anyone had a better way. You do! I just did another one and carefully pushing through the paper clip when heating with an iron worked out great. THANKS for the tip!

When using solder wick, cover the solder with liquid or paste flux or dip the end of the wick into the flux, the solder will wick into it really well then.

What brand of Capacitors do I go with for old motherboards. I see cheap kits online, and those prices are great, but not sure there reliable

Make sure they are 105 degrees rated and not 85 degrees.

I have been finding it very difficult to get the solder out of the motherboard holes. I don't have a fancy desolder station

Sorry for a late reply, I just practiced on a broken board and successfully got one out. I had the temp really high, probably too high at 450°C and I melted solder onto the connections which transferred heat way better. I also used a thick tip which held more heat so when I did get good contact it didn't dissipate into the capacitor it built up on the contact

Isn't it better to cut the capacitor legs and solder the new capacitor to the remaining legs?

Need more information, like test capacitors with a multimeter, is very important first ensure to all capacitors are good. Can you made a informative video related with the testing of capacitors from a motherboard using a multimeter?

I can't get the pins out

I can not get my legs to melt, evening using a 500 degree celsius tip, they do not melt at all.

The legs don't melt. Only the solder around then melts. Use a bit of flux. It WILL melt. 500C is far too high.

This doesn't work on an xbox 360. The board is too thick. The wick and solder sucker doesn't work at all. The paper clip is even worse. Thanks for trying though
