Just an small note... most rotors that I've bought come covered in some kind of oil/grease to keep them from rusting. VERY important that it gets cleaned off with brake cleaner before putting the calipers/new pads on! ;)

@spelunkerd OK,this car had warped rotors, and the pads weren't that old. So the calliper wasn't sticking out much. IF the pads are worn thin, then you want to open the bleeder valve when squeezing the callipers back in to prevent back pressure damaging the master cylinder. If you clamped the line, the callipers could not go back in, because there's be nowhere for that fluid to go. Scotty

@mobes329 I've responded to this question already. Some rotors come with oil or creosote coating them, the ones I used were just bare steel. Yes, if they have a coating, clean it off with brake spray. Scotty

see my video "replacing brake pads on your car" to see how to squeeze the callipers back in. Braking and pulling can be one side of the brakes sticking, OR a front end problem like worn ball joints or tie rods. Takes a pro to figure out which

@Chris07860 NEVER have warped rotors turned to make them flat again. They warped in the first place, and when you cut them to make them flat again, they are now thinner and will warp again VERY quickly. Only do that if you're selling the car very soon. Scotty Kilmer

  • @scottykilmer

if you put good new pads and rotors on, then the callipers would be sticking on and causing them to overheat and warp quickly. Bad callipers, stuck hoses feeding them, or bad master cylinders are most common causes

Don't you have to spray the rotors first with a degreaser or whatever they use on them? Also does the piston in the brakes need to be pushed back in, as it relates to the pressure from the master cylinder?

of course bleed them out first, but if they are still tight, either the callipers are sticking or you got crappy pads that are too big

I keep getting bad mechanics. I moved to a new state and can't find a trustworthy one. It's cost me thousands of dollars allready So today I bought all my own tools. And I'm just going to fix my own stuff. Your videos are a godsend thank you so much with your content. I bought parts today and recall having a mechanic do this on my car before I'm doing rotors and brakes and master cylinder my sweethearts car and I crap you not the parts and tools I needed only cost me a third of what it would cost me to go to a mechanic and this stuff seems super simple not hard at all.
