    Thanks a lot for the video. I was cutting the grass last week when the belt broke. Lucky for me Sear still sells parts online. I changed both belts. I am a stroke survivor and did this all with one hand and one leg.

    I rigged up a hoist in the shed and hang the mower and just take the deck loose and set it down. My mower doesn't have a cable for the PTO, just a lever and I think the spare will too, and it's a straight drive instead of a hydro like yours. I found that engaging the PTO at idle is a lot easier on belts than at top speed; no squealing, and I do that with electric clutches as well I'm still running the same belts that were on it when I got it but I try and be easy with it. And be sure that the belt guards are close to the pulleys or the belts weill jump off. Thanks and BLESSINGS

    I have an older 14HP lawn tractor automatic transmission. The problem that I am having is the gears make no difference in the speeds. FWD or reverse, same speed. I am not sure if the belts are routed properly, (however, there is really no slack for them to run in any other orientation.) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The rider goes forward and reverse, but only one speed. Thanks so much. Really appreciate all the work you put into your videos.

    I picked up my first used rider few weeks ago. Pretty much a blind buy and another hacked up machine. Course like all else I been learning on research of it. I mostly do two stroke repair on my own stuff. Getting tird of mowing so got the rider. Being a Craftsman 917-270821 which comes back a EZ3 if that is correct? Looks moreless like a LT-1000. So past week has been carb rebuild, new lines, filters, oil change etc. Runs smooth now.So far as the Briggs 19.5 turbo cooled. Needed a drive belt so that was fun first time install with deck on. Got it after 2nd try. First feed was wrong on belt and where. So I took note to the mower has a issue from when I brought. Gear shift is Rev, FF and N. Mower goes forward and rev. Put it in N and trans slightly kicks in and mower moves in rev. Course it's a hydrostat trans. Keep in mind I just replaced drive belt and mower did this prior. Also forward and rev are fine. Just won't stay stopped in N. What am I looking at here as causes?

    As in gear shift? The Rev, N and FF. I could see where ajusting the gear shift plate/screw may solve such cases. As to dirty, mine is clean. I went through whole mower and cleaned and greased etc. I don't "think" it has any bare, but forgot to mention. On the shift rod there is a spring I think sits behind wall inside under body. Mine I see broke on little end and just sides on rod. I have no exact clue where that spring goes on rod or plates.Nor name or part number. But that is broke and I guess that is to put tention on rod or something.

    @@HomeGaragechannel Thanks, I checked that out. I recall cleaning that other day. Well, greased plate a tad and dug grass out it. I did not take apart for a look. I will do that and take a look. Now to the spring that broke. Appears it is called a torsion spring for gear shift. Which is exact gear shift in your vid you linked I have. I see yours is hanging and flopping around in vid. Least I think that is spring. So, since a bit ago I found the part number and name of spring. Hard part is I can't find nothing on where it goes and install correctly. You got to do a vid on that because research shows me it is a hot topic of that spring breaking, but no one seems to know the install.

    After turning it on the side to change the driving bell, my Craftsman lawn tractor engine did not start. The spark plug was full with oil as well as the cyclinder. How can I fix it? Anyone's help would be appreciated!

  • @HomeGaragechannel

    You can tip the mower over but not completely otherwise oil will get into the combustion chamber and cause a no start problem. Take the plug out and try starting the engine to clear the oil out. Replace the plug with a new one and then try starting it again .

    Which craftsman is this? Also I was hoping you could help me out here. A branch derailed the drive belt from the transmission pulley at the front of the mower. I reattached it and attached the belt to the smaller pulley close to the one by the engine. I’m not sure if I put it on right or if I missed a pulley but for some reason, the belt runs now but the mower still won’t move, besides a small movement at first. This is an older craftsman but I’m not sure what exact series. It’s one with the lever to lower the deck on the right and the lever to change the gears in front of the seat by the floor. Wish I was able to talk to you. I’ve just replaced both belts on my Craftsman riding lawnmower. Everything is in place but one metal rod and one carter pin , the rod I can’t figure out on one end where it goes. The rod I’m talking about has like little tip wings on the ends of it. The one end I can’t figure out where it goes obviously goes in the middle of the deck , also the rod is curved on the ends, one end points left or right depending on how your looking at it. And the other end points downwards. I’m pretty sure the carter pin I mentioned goes on another rod similar to the one I’m having trouble with. If you happen to come on today, could you try to help me out. By the way if I hadn’t watched your video I wouldn’t have gotten this far. My lawnmower looks exactly like the one in the video, with the exception of I don’t see a PTO cable connected to mine.

    Hi there, I hope my neighbor was able to figure out exactly where it belonged. Just so you know I did exactly like you did in turning the lawnmower over to replace the drive belt and it stayed turned over longer than I wanted it to. After everything was put back together now it doesn’t want to start. My question is ,by me letting the mower staying turned over longer than I expected it to have anything to do with it not wanting to start? Ever since my brother gave me the lawnmower it’s always been hard to start. I’ve just changed the spark plug whether it needed to be changed or not. Still doesn’t start. Also if the deck belt wasn’t put on right, would that cause it not to start?

  • @HomeGaragechannel

    @HomeGaragechannel

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@timharrison4646 was it at 45 degrees or was it completely on its side? If it was on its side then the engine was flooded. If it was just tilted then it shouldn't have a problem starting as it's not enough to let the g as s leak out the carb. If it's hard to start I would manually prime the engine with a bit of gas in the air filter housing before start and make sure to not choke it since its primed.

    I have a Craftsman LT 750 I use a half inch by 82 inch V belt. I have the electric PTO clutch and you must drop the clutch to get the upper belt off so not all Craftsman's are the same
