I’m looking to replace my axle, hubs, wheels, tires and springs. I’m just curious if you considered buying the whole axle kit that comes with all of that plus mounting hardware. Was it cheaper for you to do it piecemeal? Just curious. Thank you

I bought everything from boattrailerparts.com, which included: 1. axle (included spring spacers/perches) 2. wheel hub assemblies (included bearings) 3. u-bolt kits 4. wheels 5. springs (included bushings) 6. spring bolts/nuts 7. marine grease 8. dust caps Total cost was less than $600. I did not see a kit that included all of this together, but made a list and ordered everything at once. I emailed them to double check the dimensions of the axle I needed was correct, and the guy I spoke with was spot on with what I needed. I would definitely recommend an axle with the zerk fittings on the ends so you don't have to take the wheels off to pack the bearings again. Shipping was fast and I felt like this was the cheapest place on the internet at the time I ordered. Here is the vidoe I did on the boat axle and wheel hub install: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lqB3j5N_ptWTYrw.html Hope this helps. I am always here if you need anything else!

What size bushings?Where did you source them?

If memory serves me correctly, I believe the bushings were 1/2" ID. I purchased all my parts from OUT OF THE BOX PARTS (boattrailerparts.com). When you find the leaf springs you want or currently have, down at the bottom, the website will make a recommendation of the bushings, bolts, etc., that fit that application of spring.

Just curious why you took out the bushings on the new leaf spring and put in different ones?

The white standard bushings were very thin. The new bushings were thicker and wanted something tighter around the bolts.

Thanks. Hard to tell that from the video but I figured it was probably something to that effect, getting ready to do mine soon so I just wanted to know what things I should look for. Just got the leaf springs and the bushings look fairly thick but I’ll compare them to watch there and keep the thicker or better if they aren’t worn out on the old one which I assume they would be. My new ones are white and look decently thick in the new leaf springs.

@@rotfan77 yes, the new ones are usually white that come already pressed in the leaf springs. I would imagine those are okay to use as well.

I have a question. I'm going to change the 4 lug hubs for five lugs for going to 12 inch from 8 inch wheels and tires. Which is going be a little better for long hauls. But then my Jon boat is going to be higher. I'm thinking about mounting the leaf springs on the bottom of the axle instead of the top. It should work right???

That should help with your height issue. Not sure what the actual height diff would be tho.

@@JRMSweeps I think it would be the height of the axle which is about a 1 1/2 ?, 1 3/4 ? Not much of a gain but the less I have to back up into the water the better.

I know that feeling. Wish I had a 20-foot trailer for mine as low as the water gets here.

I have a rowboat trailer. It has leaf springs without the round ends. The ends are flat and one side is welded I bracket that Hangs down. The other end of the same spring isn't welded anymore. So how do I get it home. I can't weld it and don't have a trailer to haul it on. I have photos.
