Good tutorial man. These things are such a pain in the ass to get out. I miss the old days of being able to swap out a battery in like 2 mins, just loosen the battery holder n pull it n swap. I'm out here in the freezing cold tryin to get this done today cuz I have to...I swapped the battery out last time about 5 years ago in torrential downpours lol. Good times. They certainly didn't make things easy for this lol. This is coming from someone who's replaced like everything under the hood here too lol

Thanks this really is the best guide for this that I have seen. Your instructions and voice are clear and easy to understand and you cover every detail and step very well. ALSO you show how to put everything back together, instead of showing everything magically back in its place without showing how hard or easy it was (I was wondering how easy it was actually going to be putting the new battery back in the tray).

This was so clear and super helpful! Just wish you clarified just to loosen bolts on battery connection. I was sitting here trying to fully remove. BUT that's on me for not watching. I was able to follow along just fine! Ps I think you undersold the difficulty of actually removing the battery 😅

Aside from the battery terminals switching from side-posts in the 2nd Gen to top-posts for the 3rd Gen, this procedure is the same for every 2nd and 3rd Gen W-Body. Added note for future ease of removal, apply some anti-sieze to the battery hold-down bolt, and the 3 cross-brace bolts. You'll thank yourself in 4-5 years the next time you replace your battery!!

Good video brah! Very helpful! The Gearmo Auto guy that made a video for this procedure was too scared to show himself pulling out the battery which is the whole trick to doing this efficiently! Thanks Chevorlet for making it as hard as possible to do such a necessary and menial task!

The previous gen Impala was sorta bad too since the battery was in the very same spot....but it was still easier to change than these with the 3.6. Just changed mine and it was a bear to do!

One thing you left out was to connect a memory saver before you disconnect the battery or didn't you need to do that on this model? Thanks

Unlike other demos which say you have to completely unbolt and remove the fuse box, with a V6 at least this is not necessary (it may be with the V8). Just remove those two top bolts on it and remove the fuse box cover and you’ll have enough room. I didn’t even have to tilt the battery completely sideways like he did.

I hate changing this battery. My wife’s car is dead at the park. I’ve got to leave work early tomorrow to take care of it. I couldn’t get it to charge enough to crank.

  • @remo687

I also wondered until I actually did this. You really need every bit of space you can create to remove the battery, so taking the cover off the fuse box actually ads another 1/4-1/2 inch of space to remove the battery.

So what am I supposed to do if the top nuts to the fuse box won't screw off? Shit is baffling and extremely frustrating. I'm also having a hard time just loosening the battery terminal nuts. I hate this 08 Impala. Please 🙏🏾 Help

What am I supposed to do when the fuse box nuts won't screw off? They just keep spinning on the screw but never makes its way up and off of the screw
