Thank you so much for posting this video. I just used it to install a new backup camera in my 2014 Escape. One additional thing I did was use Diolectric grease on the tiny pins in the connector. I noticed on the old camera, those pins were ever so slightly corroded. Camera works every time I hit "reverse" now. Thank you!!!

Just did this on a 2016 ford escape. Very simple detailed instructions. I had six 10mm bolts instead of the 4 you reported. Very simple need t20 nutdriver, 10mm nutdriver with extension, trim clip plastic tool, phillips screwdriver. Replaced with a $40 ebay camera works like new. Took me 30 minutes and I really took my time.

Well done. I would definitely test that camera before going to all the work of putting all that back together again.

Thanks for the video. The camera on my wife’s 2015 Escape had been working intermittently since we bought the car about a year ago. We would get a black screen, and the “camera not available, contact your dealer” message. The last month or so it hasn’t worked at all. Was able to replace the camera easily from these instructions. Working great so far.

A year since you posted this and it's still helping people. I just replaced the camera in my daughter's 2015 Escape and it was just as you described. Based on a couple of comments, I tried removing the black frame of the camera, but I was afraid if I kept trying I'd damage it or the surrounding car paint. I decided to do it the "hard" way. Except for a quick trip to buy a 10mm deep socket (yeah we all haven 'em someplace) and watching key parts of your vid a couple times, it took maybe an hour or so. My daughter's Ford dealer told her it would be $600-$700 and a local car stereo installation shop said about the same. price. Thank you!

Worked perfectly on my 2014. Ironically I had the same screw loose on the handle 😂 someone screwed up and one of the nuts on that rear flange was on the plastic guide instead of the bolt but everything else went as planned 👍👍👍

Scan the car and see if you have any dtc's for something called Image processing module A or B (IMPA or IMPB). If you see codes for one of the 2, or both, its probably the camera. If not, its probably the touch screen. FCIM (front controls interface module). If you end up replacing the camera, it needs to be calibrated with a scan tool. If you're not sure, put the car in reverse and turn the steering wheel back in forth while looking at the screen. If the 2 lines on the screen bend when doing this, its calibrated. If the lines stay straight, its not.

The black housing that holds the camera will pop off from the outside. Just pry it up with a flat head. You can swap the camera out in less than 2 minutes.

OEM equivalent is good. That's the one I used in the video. Ford wanted 700$ for the OEM camera.

@OllieKramer - The one I replaced in our 2014 was made in China, by $50.00 one off of eBay or Amazon.

Remove license plate. Pop out plastic plate holding camera. Use then screw driver or thin hard plastic to push in two tabs on left side of plate. This take 30 seconds including removing plate. Much easier

no, but its so easy you don't need a video. Literally remove the license plate, take a small screw driver and pop out the plastic plate that holds the camera. Its not complicated or difficult.@@hilo5831

I just replaced mine, out here in Taiwan. The plastic plate fitting is tight, but I took a chance and figured I may snap the clips. I used a flat bladed screwdriver to prise up the plate, but, yes, the clips snapped pretty easily. Having removed and replaced the camera, I looked at what was there to work with and I came up with a simple and effective fix: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJ19mbSvpsnFZ5c.html

Thanks for the video! Our dealer tells us we also need the pigtail harness for the camera due to corrosion. Do you know what part# that would be?

Turns out we only needed the camera. Bought just the camera on ebay for $45. The dealer originally quoted us nearly $700 to do the job which probably included that harness I mentioned. In total, I easily did it in less than 30 minutes. Thanks so much for posting this @OneTrickTech !

Is there any way to adjust the camera angle. Mine is looking to much down i see reg plate . Was not like this before

you can search "ford escape wiring diagrams" on google but you will have to buy it. Its hard to find them for free.

My camera is fine, but the housing piece the camera sits in is broken. Whats the name of that rectangular piece that you fit the camera into?

Im not sure, probably called a molding for the license plate light/ rear camera. To get the exact name, you would have to call the Ford dealer so they can identify it for you
