    Awesome video jessa, it's very much appreciated that you are making these. I am a tech at a small repair shop and I have plenty of problems where there is board level repair needed and we have to send it off for fixes. Cannot wait to be able to do these repairs myself as we have a whole solder station and noone to do the repairs!

    I had troubles soldering SODIMM connector to my prototype PCB - RPI CM3 carrier board. It looks like this technique (put tin on pcb first and then presolder with hot air) will solve my problem! Thank you for the video! Keep it up!

    If you use a good quality soldering iron, with a fine tip, you can basically install the new connector using only the soldering iron. This way you are less likely to destroy it by excessive heat.

  • @pr0xZen

    @pr0xZen

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Zendarkos depends on your skill and steadiness with (regular) tweezers vs the iron. Some people are really steady, precise and swift with tweezers, but not with soldering iron or hot soldering tweezers. If you're one of those, using only hot air and regular tweezers, can yield just as good results. As Jessa points out here, if you're sensible about the temperature, you won't damage the plastic as long as you only touch and manipulate it by the beefy ground retaining tabs at each end.

    I sent my son's ipad mini to your store on 12/14/18 to have the logic board connector replaced. Thank you for helping to repair it, you've made my son very happy. I will say for anyone hesitant on repairing their devices, iPad Rehab did a wonderful job, I had my device back in less than 10 days (and it was just before Christmas ) and the price was right. Thank you again!! I will absolutely use again and will recommend to others. Happy New Year from Chattanooga, Tennessee!

    I do it exactly like you do apart from when iv re added solder I don't add any to the anchors. I only do that as iv found on some connectors the big anchor pads can take too much solder which stops the connector touching the regular pins properly. Il then go and solder the anchors after once the other pins are done. Your station is better than mine so prob removes the solder from the anchors a bit better than my cheap one :) , as I find it a ball ache to remove once added. Then I just do the same as you and go over each joint. Seems to do the job.

    Question: I see both you and Louis Rossman use flux on connectors but there is rosin (flux) core solders so I wondering if you use flux by default because it aids in the soldering process or do you use rosin core solder on certain parts only? As an electronics tech I tend to use flux when I have more than one connection to work on. If it's a single side like a cap or resister I use rosin core solder to reduce the cleanup later.

    Is there any tip adjustment to the hakko mini hot tweezers? The pivot screw seems, reasonably tight, but can't see any point of adjustments. I got a proper, matching T9-I set from official distributor (well over $100 around here), but the tips don't meet properly. Have to put significant sideways force at the same time as clamping them, otherwise the tips, are like at least 0.15-.2mmm off from meeting as intended. Making it really hard to get a grip on smds, and even worse keeping the grip. Because they slip off one end, and because the force exerted to push the yellow hinged portion sideways, induce small tremors, attenuated at the tweezer tips.
