Ope, i was just watching the "replace your alternator video" to figure out how to replace the belt, then saw this one (which is a cut-down version of the other one). Love them both, easy to understand, right to the point. Love it.
thank you so much for this video , got it all done by myself without the need of a mechanic, please keep uploading helpful videos like this , God bless you bro.

Ok so I was confused for a minute, you replaced the Alternator belt first, and after you secured the Alternator. You then also replaced the power steering belt as well. The whole time I was thinking where did this second belt come from.
Great Video; just replaced the serpentine belts on my Civic. Thanks for leaving in the footage on what to do when parts get stuck and what to do.
I don't have any of the special can of blue tape penetrating oil. Darn. Just a little bit of it seemed to make that alternator look Brand New!
Thanks for the video, found it’s a lot easier to go in through the driver side wheel well if all you’re doing is trying to tighten the belt and not replace it. You can reach the locking bolt no problem, still have to lift the power steering reservoir to reach the adjusting wing nut.
that Alt sure cleaned up good :)
Very good video! Great camera work and instructions! I changed my belts and the job was much easier because of this.

You guys sure did show the hard way to replace the drive belt on those 1.7L Civics lol. You just have to LOOSEN the adjusting bolt(s) to remove each belt. You don't need to take the alternator or power steering pump off. This adds unnecessary steps to an easy job. I get you were replacing the alternator anyway, but if it's a "How to Change Your Alternator Belt" video, just keep it simple and make a separate video for that job.

Great Vid, one question regarding the adjusting of the belt(s). Is the power steering belt tensioning wingnut & bolt on top (approx. 9 min - 9:30 min) independent from the alternator/AC belt adjustment, bolt & wingnut shown (2:49 - 3:30 min)? Meaning, if my power steering belt is squealing due to improper tension, can I make adjustment on the top only?
What is the number/size of the stock alt belt of a cvic dimension?thnks!

Hi. Can you tell me what size ratchet you used for the power steering pulley nut? I have a 3/8” ratchet with the 12mm socket and it can’t fit into that small space. I have a 2002 honda civic ex.
My AC clutch went out and is making a grinding noise. I found that an 2001 honda civic dx doesn't have an AC so a belt can be used from that model to bypass the noisy clutch until it can be replaced. Thanks for the video.
Hey do I have to adjust to the right side to adjust the belt I did it like that but it fells that is not that tight ... please somebody help me

Smaller cars and even some newer trucks have made belts way more work to replace. My old 94 chevy all you need is 5 minutes and two wrenches and you don't need to dissemble or move anything out of the way.
Still have a squeak when the ac compressor kicks in. Should I tighten the wing nut more? Belt seems tight as is

replace the ac compressor?
@wyattpennington8030

danermanerkider can’t went there is metal that gets lodged into the system so it would need a system flush. + doing it this way is a lot cheaper than buying a new compressor. Got it figure out though, bud.
This video was mostly helpful except for the part of the alternator adjustment screw. it was not mentioned which way the adjustment screw needed to be turned to drop the alternator enough to get the belt on. He obviously changed the alternator and he could of showed us the adjustment screw and what had to be done with it. It seemed like part of the video was cut out or edited out the part on the alternator adjustment screw.

5 months a little late but I took a 12 inch and a 6 inch extension and hammered it to loosen it up.

Late a well, but using pliers was a pain. I had a 22 or 24mm socket I think from a set I got from HF and was able to tighten mine with a ratchet.
To better access the 12mm nut on the power steering is better to use a regular 12 me open tool wrench with the other end closed but I use the open side as I sneak it inbetween the power steering hoses and before the power steering belt and adjust it that way easy instead of using that swivel extension ew lol
Thanks!!! As tedious, at least I understood that I have to take half of the car apart to get to the belt :-) Big help

You put the 12mm large washer nut onto the wrong bolt you took it of from. You removed it from the right side by the power steering pump but replaced it on the left side for the pump bracket bolt
My reservoir doesn’t just move like this one did 1:13
Humm did you broke the alternator look like brand new
Help! I just replaced my alternator because it wasn't spinning by itself and the belt was completely destroyed inside. After replacing with a new alternator and belt, I get a nasty squealing noise followed by the smell of burning rubber when i start the car. This leads me to believe that my new alternator is not spinning properly. What could i have possibly done wrong? both the alternator and power steering belts seemed pretty tight with only about .25 inches of play.

+Garrison You may want to inspect the belt tensioner to see if it needs to be replaced. It sounds like there isn't enough tension on the belt.

Actually I discovered the ac compressor clutch may be locked up
Do you need to take off the positive off of the battery too?
How the hell do I get the alternator wing nut off it just turns but wont come loose
My 2005 Civic Coupe squeals sooo loud for about 20 seconds when I turn it on cold. Once it's warmed up, it stops. I tried changing the belt last night, but the top bolt on the alternator is partially rounded. Is the squeal from the belt due to lose tension? When I spray water on the ribbed side, it does temporarily stop squealing.

@@1AAuto No problem. You guys' guides are nice and informative. As I'm kinda tight on cash right now and already have my new belt and stuff, do you know if it's possible to completely remove the top bolt on the alternator and/or a way to unseize it? Mine is partially rounded too and I don't want to round it more and I don't want to reuse if I don't have to (if I'm lucky enough to get it out without breaking it).
