As an educator, I appreciate how you went through the process step-by-step and provided clear explanations of each step. Great info, thanks!
Hi Mr Wakefield, I was so pleased to come across your KZread segment on how to fix a running toilet! I'm an Aussie lady currently in lockdown due to the Covid virus and couldn't get a plumber to fix the toilet which was running all the time, the only time it didn't was when I turned off the water intake tap so I wasn't wasting water. Being in my 60's now and recently divorced I no longer have my husband to do all the plumbing (!!) so I decided to do some research and fix it myself. And while I was looking on the internet I found your piece! Fifteen minutes after watching, my toilet problem was fixed! So I saved myself a lot of money calling out a plumber and now I feel so self-confident because I did it myself! Thank you so much!
This is so helpful! My dad was a plumber and would normally help me out with all these kinds of things but he passed away last year so I'm trying to navigate these household things myself! He'd be proud that I'm doing it on my own- I appreciate these videos! Off to Lowe's I go!

I love the cut away toilet tank. Makes it so easy to see what’s going on
This video was 5 years ago but it still helps people. It helped me. I just lifted the flush valve and clean around it. It stopped the leak. Thank you Mr. Wakefield. We've been paying $100 more than average bill. The water company sent a reminder that we might have leaks and to check everything.

Good value. Clear succinct and to the point. 80% of the diy video on KZread should be looking at this video as a benchmark. From one trainer/instructor to another, well done, take a bow.
Thank you Roger! Your videos make it easy for a single girl such as myself to feel empowered enough to try these repairs. I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos and explain every step to us lay people!
This instructional video is definitely one of the best I ever seen if not the best, my man goes directly to the point no bullshit around
Your videos are helping my transition from a new construction plumber to a residential service plumber. Thanks for these

You're a really good teacher. I was nervous to attempt this by myself, but I just finished after following your procedure and it worked like a charm. Kudos!
Great video. I was so glad to find one showing how to change out the flush valve! Very informative.
Great instructions. You made it seem less intimidating. I took your advice and replaced both the flush valve and the fill valve - was glad I did! Easy peasy!
Great video Roger. The cut out display makes it easy to follow what you're doing. You have a mellow, plainspoken style that's also really engaging. Nicely done!
As a 42 year old man I say this without a hint of sarcasm: Thanks, dad.

Thnx a lot.😊
Thanks for the videos Roger and easy to understand instructions. My tank has 3 bolts instead of 2 and when the flush valve was turned all the way it was difficult to screw in the 3rd bolt. I resolved this by rotating the flush valve back. Also my bolt replacements came with rubber tapered washers for 2 per bolt along with a metal washer. Took a couple tries to realize I only needed the rubber washers inside the tank and not on both sides. The metal washers I used for the 3 nuts to avoid cracking the porcelain. Because my original bolts and nuts had fused together (replaced with brass plated hardware), it took about 2 hours to saw them off with a metal hacksaw and round handle since this was the only way to access the bolts. As an Information Technology Manager and professional trainer, your video seemed to only handle the "happy path" under ideal conditions and didn't address older or less optimal edge cases. Still Roger , I appreciated your presentation and have subscribed to your channel. Like computer software, you also need to account for the exceptions, and I'd also be interested to know exactly how the fill valve works internally to shut off the water. Seems like the float is restricted to a certain level that somehow stops the flow of water coming into the toilet. Then again that the way geeks are we want to know how everything works.
Thank you!! I'm a , 70 year old widow and I think I can do this!!
Great video! My husband and I followed all your steps and our toilet works great! Thank you so much for your video!
That was good information. A quality, easy to view, well explained instructional video. Most videos relating to toilet leak repairs are about flapper valve or fill valve replacements. Thanks for going into the repairs a little deeper, with detailed, step by step instructions on this particular job.
Mr. Wakefield, this how-to video should be the textbook material for all entry level DYI enthusiasts! You ARE great! Very methodical and yet easy to understand 👍👍👍

Thank you for the clear and succinct video, shows the details of what isn't too complicated of a job. I probably spent more time getting tools from the shed then working on it. Then dealing with a completely rotted and stuck tank to bowl bolt. Ground the head off from the inside and made that much easy!
Thank you, I go to you first for my plumbing needs and you did not disappoint!! This was so much less intimidating than I imagined and was a lot quicker than I though. No leaks!!!
Thank you Roger! I wish I had an Uncle like you to teach me this man stuff to fix around my house, and thank goodness we have youtube now to learn these things.
Really enjoy your how-to videos and the plain ol’ down-to-earth way that you explain everything! You have saved me hundreds of dollars in not having to pay someone to come in and do it for me! Thank you and God Bless you, sir!
Thank you for the clear instructions! I followed this video to replace flush valve and stopped the toilet leak! Thank you!

Great instruction!!! Done in 20 minutes. No mess.
Thank you for this! It was clear, concise, and well shot. It helped me replace my flush valve with zero hassle and gave me the confidence that I knew what I was doing!
Well done! You made it easy to follow. I'm glad I bumped into this video before I started the rebuild on mine. I'll be following this channel for all my plumbing repairs.
Excellent - the tank cutaway makes a crystal-clear presentation. Even though I "thought" I knew how to tackle this project, it's always smart to check first. And this video is a winner. Thanks, Mr. Wakefield.
Hey Roger! I knew I needed to put in a new flush valve, and your video was the perfect prep instruction to know what to do - thank you!

very helpful. Clear step by step demonstration. Thank you!

Roger knows his stuff. and he is brisk and to the point, no lollygagging. Thank you.
Thank you for making this easy and thorough. The cut out back of the toilet makes this the best tutorial on KZread. Thank you, sir.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I had to fight with my tank bolts for a bit but I got it done! This video helped me a lot!
Great video. Thanks for going thru all the steps. You make it look pretty easy...and I guess it really isn't that hard after seeing this great explanation.
Super helpful, especially with the cutaway, which is a great way to show what’s going on. Thank you for getting me through this fairly difficult (for me, a beginner) project.
I appreciate this video. Very helpful. I just replaced my office toilet parts that were 25-30 years old.

Wow! Thanks so much for this lesson. I foolishly thought that I could change the flush valve without taking the tank off. Now I know better!
9:18 minute video turned into a 4 hour event because of a rusted wing nut on the bottom side of the tank. Video was super helpful and job was finished. Thank you.
Awesome video. Already replaced fill valve.. Now the flush valve
very , very well done....you are a clear, and concise, well spoken teacher!
This was a huge help, many thanks'
Thank you Roger. As a DIY sort, these instructional videos are both welcome and priceless. I've learned a lot and expect smooth sailing from here on. Thank you again.
Fantastic video, I’ve changed out many flush kits but never a valve, I broke one of the tips that holds the flapper so I had to change the valve, this made it super easy, thanks
Thank you Mr. Wakefield for your clear explanation and good demonstration.
Wow thanks for this video, man. Once I saw how easy it was to take off the tank I'm so on board.
For anyone who doesn't have gigantic channel-locks, I used an oil filter wrench and it worked great. Fantastic how-to video!
You're a hero man. In this hard recession, we're looking to find ways to DIY in order to avoid tough costs. I'm in Florida which makes this video a blessed convenience, but in Texas, people like me with a toilet running every 5 minutes should thank their lucky stars.
having a lot of fun with an old toilet, American standard. couldn't just replace the flapper valve since it was made such that it wouldn't come off, tried looking for replacement parts on company site but they didn't carry any for older models, bought a full replacement kit from a hardware store, said compatible with 99% of toilets, figured id give it a shot. the gasket didn't fit the bowl opening. so next i tried putting the old gasket on the fitting, that also isn't working so far, will try some more once my brothers able to help me. just frustrating how company's non-standardize their parts because they don't want you to replace the small components, they want you to have to buy a whole new toilet. still hoping i can make this work but this is just repairs around the house as usual, always having to pull an improvised 'fix' to make stuff work.
This is the absolutely best plumbing explanation I've ever seen. You are a great teacher. I feel very prepared to take on this project! Subscribed!
Thank you for this video !! You have a new subscriber. I learned several things from this video. Mainly I learned: I was actually LQQKING for a video concerning the fill valve - not the flush valve. I now know the difference. 2. If our toilet gets to the point of needing a flush valve, I think it is time to just get a new chair height toilet! Thank you !! 3. You do have videos concerning the toilet fill valve so I will watch them. 4. I now have a KZread Channel to go to to get information for plumbing issues.
Thank you for the succinct education. The toilet in my apartment had parts that were so old and rusted that I had to saw everything off, but the replacement was easy and I knew what I was doing thanks to this video.
Your instructions are clear, and concise. Very easy to follow! Thank you for the video.
Thank you, sprung a leak this morning, found its all bad except the refill...off to lowes, damn!!!
great videos!! These are super helpful, thank you for posting this

Great video! I just finished replacing the flush valve using the tips you gave, and while I was at it replaced the fill valve too.
Roger, I agree with the multitude, here, and applaud your excellent training vid. I do have one suggestion: Do a similar vid USING AN OLD TOILET. l venture to say most of us do not have a clean demonstration toilet that we're working on. Teach viewers how to deal with the realities of rusted nuts, bolts, deteriorated components, etc... This is what most of us will find when we make a repair. It would be great to see how a true pro deals with these challenges. Many thanks.
Another lady taking apart her toilet, here. Thank you so much for this video! Wish I would’ve done this when I had to replace the flange last year, would have saved some time and effort!
Thank you so much. Saved me time and money! Great instructional video, hope to see more
Nice! Gonna work on this tonight and become my wife’s hero! Thank you for the vid

This is one of the "Watch a youtube video and do it" videos. Excellent, simple & concise. Thanks for saving me $200 for a plumber.
This is perfect instruction..especially for a non plumber. I have been waiting for my husband to attempt to fix our downstairs toilet since we had our well pump replaced. I use this bathroom mainly, but for whatever reason has not functioned properly since the well pump replacement, almost 8 months ago & I am tired of turning the water valve off after each flush. Since, it won't fix itself & my husband, "Will get to it"later than sooner- I am tackling this feat. It wants to continuously run after the tank is full...I felt around the seal...wiped it out multiple times thinking a piece of sediment has caused it not to seal. I have disassembled the flapper..still no success. I am going to replace the flapper to start..& take it from there. Thank you for sharing this easy instruction video.....from the done nagging to do it myself wife.
Very clear and simple instructions. Thank you!
Thus was great! I feel like a real plumber and I dud it myself!! Thank you so much 😊

Didn't think I could do this myself, managed fine thanks to this. Removing cistern was a pain due to rusted bolts, after that all smoothly, even with both left hands 😅

You explained it perfectly. Thanks from the handy woman.
You do a fabulous job with explaining step by step and each part. What needs, needs!, to be added is the aspect that when putting the tank back into place DO NOT ROCK THE TANK BECAUSE YOU MIGHT BREAK THE CONNECTING SEAL {yep, like I did & now we're buying a whole new toilet}.
