Hey Tom, my Uncle taught that to me 50 years ago. He taught everything automotive to me when I was 15 saying "you will thank me for this when you get your own car" . I loved helping him fix things, not just cars. Turned out my first "car" was an Air Force surplus Dodge D-200 crew cab with the big slant 6 and 4wd manual four speed I got at Griffiths AFB near Syracuse, NY. You just can't kill those engines no matter what you do with them. I put a Meyers snow plow on it and made a pile of money snow plowing in the Winter, and landscaping the rest of the year. The Dodge cost me $300 at auction in 1974. I undercoated it with toilet ring wax thinned with linseed oil to keep the body and frame from rusting, and that really worked much better than undercoating in a spray can. It filled the rust pits and stuck much better than the asphalt undercoating. I sold the truck in 2001, and it is probably still driving around somewhere.

These beasts are amazing. Why did you sell ?
Had a couple people tell me the smaller the tire, the harder to break the bead, just did one of my John Deere front tires (15X6.00) in less than 10 minutes. The jack method is "Da Bomb", thank you.

This video is getting old but out of no where my wife's tire developed a valve stem leak. Had never fixed one before and you made it look easy. Thanks for the video!
I'm about to mount my own winter tires on some new dedicated winter rims and this video makes it very clear on how to first install the valvestems. Looks like I'll be making a trip to my local auto parts store. Thanks man!
A good trick with the floor jack, Frugal. Thanks.

Just wanted to say a big thank you! I watched your video several times before changing the valve stem on my Chrysler town and country today. You saved me both time and money. I really appreciate informative videos like this one. It only took me under an hour from removing the tire, breaking the seal, adding the new valve stem, and adding air back to the tire. Now I know how to do this if needed in the future. Thanks again!

Thanks and welcome. I got a new tool to do these without removing the bead now. I haven't had a chance to do a video on it yet though. Steve Rob Reviews shows the tool here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aKyMqsWwns-YntI.html
Perfect little YT video. Just what I needed. Thanks a lot Tom.
Man, I've had that Lil 4 way tool for years and stupid me never thought to use it to pull new valves up. Thanks man!
I liked the use of the screwdriver to hold your jack handle together. I lost the nut to the bolt that holds my jack together so I stuck the bolt back in & used electrical tape to hold it in as a temporary fix.
Thank you for the great explanation, I love DIY, but also enjoy understanding what goes into the job, when I don’t want to get that dirty, but don’t want to be “taken for a ride” for a set of 4 brand new tires.
Very helpful. Never thought of using a jack to break the bead. Thanks.

Ah man thanks for the help. at 3:57 is where I needed help to pull the stem and I didn’t know how to. Even though I had this tool but didn’t know it can be used to pull the stem. Brilliant teaching, just like in this video as long as you know how to use a jack to jack up the car so it won’t damage the tire when you crush it to let it loose from the rim. Great video

Your Welcome
I just watched 10 videos on how to safely remove the the tire from the rim and with straps, blocks, and whatnot and here you go just putting the wheel under the jack and the car.
You have a musical ear to sing the same pitch as when the tyre pops :)
@frugalprepper

Thanks Tom from Tom
What kind of brush for rust? Also I watched several other videos for breaking a tire bead. This was best. very helpful thx
@frugalprepper
4 жыл бұрын
Any kind of wire brush that will get it off. Something that will go on a drill would probably work well.
I don't see it mentioned, but I had trouble getting the stem inside the rim covered by the tire. I used a paint can opener, stuck it under the lip, and pulled it over to make a seal.
My valve stem break is on the outside of the rim, so I am thinking of throwing some kind of putty or epoxy or something, enough to seal the break in the stem but not so much that getting it out of there to replace it will be difficult... But now that I've seen how simple it is to pop the tire far enough off the rim to do it the right way, I might just grab my hydraulic jack and give it a go. I really don't have the extra $25-$35 to take the tire to a shop right now, but $4 I can swing. And I have all of the tools available except the compressor but I can take the tire to Wawa when I'm done for that
fuck yea, nice video. no bs

Wassup man! There’s a piece of plastic from the cap stuck in one of my tires because it broke and it has low tire pressure but can’t add air cause the plastic is covering it.... do you know what can i use to take the piece of plastic out? Without damaging the tire valve. Thanks!

Nice Tip!
Sir, somehow only my right front and right rear’s valve stem core are shorter compare to left ones after changing new wheels. So it’s very hard to check air pressure with my gauge since valve stem cores are shorter and gauge cannot touch (or push) the core... How can i resolve this issue?!
@frugalprepper
3 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about the core that screw into the valve stem or the valve stem itself is shorter. I would try something like this: amzn.to/37znBl1
is that lube specific tire lube or what kind of tire lube do you need to do that
