I did it! My 2001 B4000 now has new lower ball joints, upper control arms, shocks and camber bolts. I took it in for a professional alignment, but everything else I did myself - with your help! Thanks so much Chris. You made all the difference. I would not have done this without your channel. Keep up the great work!

Hey Chris, thank you so much! I was driving the other day and the right ball joint on my car completely fell apart. So I investigated and found out I needed to replace the lower ball joint. I have wrenched on cars before but I've never really touched the front end/suspension before. After studying this video and tackling the replacement I successfully replaced both sides lower ball joints on my car. I cannot thank you enough for the excellent quality and straight forward how to videos you put out on this channel. Thank you!!! A shop wanted $320 per side and I spent $60 on 2 ball joints!!

And is it true that you need to change your tire rod and have an alignment after doing the ball joint? And is it best to change the upper and lower at the same time even if only one or the other is bad? I’m such a mess since my truck broke down and I want to make sure we do everything right 🙏🏻❣️

A simple trick before installing the ball join is to put it in the freezer (or use can of air upside down right before installing) the night before so it'll shrink oh so slightly and be easier to install. Oh and blast everything the night before with PB Blast. If it's a classic car then PB Blast it a few days in a row before doing the work. I take this back. dont use PB blast. use half acetone & atf fluid. it's a whole lot better and way cheaper. i use the old atf. and you dont have to wait either. learned this the hard way. used pb blast on exhaust studs. 1st one broke and then the rest came off with ease after the new penetrating oil formula.

You should only LOOSEN the lug nuts before raising the vehicle. Removing the lug nuts before raising the vehicle is a recipe for disaster!

tripjet999 actually, the wheel is held in place by the downward pressure of the weight of the vehicle, even with the lug nuts removed, it won’t fall unless you shake it very hard. But to be on the same side, I just loosen them slightly.

I am not a mechanic but it is my understanding that loosening and removing the axel nut but before jacking can damage your bearings. I know some of these rules are just nonsense but any feedback is always appreciated.

Best way is to not lift the vehicle but have some pressure on it so if the wheel does come off the jack will catch it

I realize this is an old video, but you teach more about the correct way to use tools than many others. I need to do that to my 2001 Lincoln Town Car. I know I'm going to need a ball joint tool, and do have a good idea on how to use it. You Sir, have confirmed my idea on HOW to use it correctly. However I will use an air impact because I have them, and I'm all for doing it the easiest way possible. Thank you Sir, for such good videos. 👍

your video on lower ball joint removal was the only one of four by others that used any type penetrating oil or lube, myself use brake fluid in a spray bottle, good quick videos without all the mistakes I saw the others make trying to use an air impact wrench. oil very important part of a disassembly and assembly!
