Please be aware that both times you refer to the "fuse", its in fact a relay! Although the most important to retain is that if the fuel relay is bad/faulty. There's a perfect temporary replacement, just laying beside it. The relay for the horn! Giving the option of being stuck on the side of the road. Or drive without a horn in an emergency. The choice is clear! ;-) Cheers

Great video. Think I can manage this myself. Did you replace it with a used spare or did you manage to find a new one from somewhere? If so, do you mind sharing where you got yours from please? Apparently it's a common fault for a mk1 to show the wrong level over time and I'd rather not replace bad for worse.

Thanks, I actually refitted the original just to show the process. You could probably pick up a new unit from Aliexpress (www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004599681006.html) or a used one from Ebay or a car dismantlers, but I couldn't give a guarantee of how good/bad they would be. It can be hit or miss with each option.

Great video, thanks a lot for this. It got me questioning though what could the chance be that it was just my fuse that was faulty and my mechanic charged me for the whole fuel pump. Wouldn't it be reasonable for him to first bring up the fuse and have it checked? He never mentioned that it could be that. And the whole car wreaks of fuel so strongly for a week now after the fuel pump cap was opened, so i suppose it's probably because it wasn't resealed right?

@@screwsnutsandbolts Well basically it started acting up while driving, steering wheel and brakes about to lock and stop functioning and the car about to switch off. The car would push a few hundred meters like that and then switch off eventually. I would try to restart it and after a little struggle it would switch back on, but only to go through the same process after a couple of hundred meters. The mileage on the engine is about 110,000 miles or 180,000 kilometers.

@@andreasorfanou5970 It probably was the fuel pump failing with that sort of mileage. If the fuse had blown it never would have started again. As for the smell of fuel, I would have that checked out just to be sure

@@screwsnutsandbolts hey, yea, just as soon as you raised the question of whether it suddenly stopped working and i had to remember that it was actually struggling for quite a while, it made a lot of sense that it couldn't just be the fuse or else the car wouldn't have started again at all. I guess i should and will start trusting my guy more. About the fuel smell, i actually glued the cap back down and the smell was finally gone, obviously the factory people knew what they were doing when they sticked the cap down so that it would be sort of air tight. Thanks again for all of your replies and happy new year.

Hi everyone, can anyone tell me if the petrol pump is faulty or damaged, can it cause a "banging" noise under the bonnet of the car? I hear a noise as if something was banging in the engine area, only at low engine speeds up to a speed of, say, around 30km/h. The machine has no performance or abnormal consumption problems. I changed the oil and oil filter, also the service belt.

Hey Sir my daughters car has a thread lid I took it off rather easy but it’s a bitch to put back on..any ideas? It keeps going on cross thread fir some reason, I appreciate anything comments you have (2007 Toyota Yaris)

Did you try pressing down on it and rotating it slowly counter clockwise until the thread clicks into place and then rotating it clockwise ?. If that doesn't work, could the rubber seal be catching in the threads of the locking ring ?

Also, make sure the pump unit is correctly located in the top of the fuel tank before you put try to screw on the ring. Sometimes it can float up out of the tank slightly.
