This is a great video for replacing Delta shower faucets. Thought it would be an easy job. First, a frozen Allen screw, two drill bits later got the handle off. Bonnet nut came off easy. The cartridge came out in pieces. Once I'd broken off all the edges trying to pull it out with channel locks, I looped a piece of wire around it and hammered the vise grips with the channel locks till it finally budged then I gave it a good tug and hit the other side of the shower when it finally came out. Twenty minute job took about 2 hours. Now off to buy a replacement handle. good luck.
Love these videos where a guy is working on a brand new part. Should show the fix after it's been installed for 20 years in the wall with hard water lol. Kind of like working on a California car vs a 10 year old Buffalo NY car with tons of rust.

@@Frank_Cohen Because you don't have hard water. David B is right. I would be helpful to see how a professional would handle a cartridge that is frozen inside the valve body.

Same boat of a crusty seized 20 year old faucet but this caveman is happy he doesn't have to keep poking at it with a pointy stick trying wait for something to happen.
Mine was 19 yrs old, took lots pulling & wiggling. If calcium on parts soak in CLR. Also handle screw was really hard to move. Sprayed it with penetrating oil, left for while but still had to use pliers on my allen screw to get it to move. At the end I removed screw and covered it & chamber with penetration oil. Big difference putting handle back on!
There is one additional step I would recommend. Use waterproof grease on the bonnet nut threads before screwing it back in place. It'll save your life the next time you have to remove it. For those dealing with a bonnet that's practically welded in place. To get it off I used a hacksaw to cut a little screwdriver (flat-head) sized notch into the edge of the bonnet (at around the 10:00 area). Set the screwdriver head into the notch at a slight angle and tap the screwdriver with a hammer (tap it carefully, you don't want to damage the pipe!!). I got it to turn a 1/3 of a turn before the notch was too far down. then I did the same thing a few more times until I had notches all the way around. The nut was so awful it never became wrench or hand crankable. I had to slowly hammer-tap the thing all the way off. When I put it back together I used grease, and the next time I had to take it off it was a piece of cake.

Great video, my 13 year old faucet was a little hard to get out, when I pried out the cartridge the cartridge and the caviety it went into were coated with a heavy layer of limescale. Before I went to purchase a $62 dollar replacement I removed all the limescale from the caviety and the cartridge and reinstalled the old cartridge. It worked, no more leak.
I have no experience at all, but done with fixing the leaking bath faucet in 30min. Best video instructions ever found! Thanks!
The best $45 I've spent ($33.25 for the cartridge, $9.50 for a Kobalt strap wrench). The old cartridge was a bit stubborn but i was able to wiggle it out. Only thing worth mentioning is that you may have to make adjustments for water temp - the 13/14 series cartridge may need a small adjustment to allow the turning of the handle for more hot water. The default stop position only let the water get luke warm.
Helpful video! Thought I needed a plumber because I wasn't sure how to remove the cartridge, then I see you remove the cover and nut ring. Thanks!
This solved my crossover situation where the cold was entering the hot side.
Thank you so much for your instruction. Worked like a charm on my 22-year-old Delta faucet
Doesn’t show getting the old one out with a tire iron hammer and chainsaw. Had to pull mine with a chain and truck bumper!!!

There's a tool that you mount onto the cartridge, once screw on yoy turn counter clockwise and it cones out slowly
Great video, walked me right through it. Had to use vasaline on the rubber to get to pop into place. Thanks
Thanks for your clarification and time. It helped me with two showers both have different cartridges
couple things I would add... your video makes it look quick and easy... in reality it is not. Probably need a good spray of penetrating oil as in real life the parts will have "welded" themselves on over time. I snapped and broke a strap wrench trying to loosen the nut. Ended up needing a huge wrench to get it off. The cartridge itself would not come out. Piece by piece it broke off. I was starting to be afraid that I had the wrong part or something. I eventually got all of it out and swapped out, but it took a ton of strength and force and broken tools and a couple minor injuries due to wrenches slipping and so forth
Thanks... you saved me 300 bucks. I just had to buy the delta cartridge and install
Worked just like you instructed, thanks!
Super helpful video - it worked like a charm. Thank you!!

Thank you. Worked perfectly.
This was a great video and very thorough. Very easy to follow along.
No cartridge has ever come out that easily
Good video, but should mention the use of plumber's silicone lubricant on the o-rings on the back of the cartridge, to get it to reinstall/seat more easily.

Absolutely - this is a great tip!
Wanted to add my experience because I found the comments on these videos very helpful-- Finishing screw was crusted with calcification but fortunately not stripped so came off with a little hammering on the hex Handle was difficult to remove; turned handle all the way on and soaked with vinegar; alternated tapping the sides lightly with hammer while wiggling front and back to remove. There was a lot of build up where water got past finishing screw (as many have said, stupid design) Bonnet nut came off with hand strength but holy cow the cartridge was stupid difficult to remove. 1. Tried turning water back on for 20 seconds 2. Destroyed half of cartridge with screwdriver, drill and pliers 3. Turned water back on for 20 seconds (at least to clear debris) 4. Some rotational movement on pieces using pliers and repeated WD-40 to the back of cartridge did the trick for removing the rest of it Might've been able to skip the destruction part, but maybe not because it was helpful for giving access for the WD-40. Will be reinstalling with liberal plumbers grease to cartridge, bonnet nut and over finishing screw so (hopefully) in 5 years I'll only need to replace the seats and springs and be able to do so easily. Good luck to all!
Worked perfectly 👌 👍 thanks for the video 📹
Got 2 jobs today with this issue, this is definitely going to help

Hi, thank you for the video. I really need a replacement in my shower water faucet. I have the old Delta Asse 1016 Masco, do you know what replacement I can use? Thank you.
Beware the Delta handle set screw corroding , I have finally fixed my leak after hacksawing both the handle off and splitting the copper bonnet at top to get the completly corroded thing off, used the new blue bottom Delta cartridge and ordered the new handle and bonnet (no one stocks those anymore which is ridiculous if they sell the cartridge), lots of work after the set screw disinigates so much you cant back it out. Tried days of drilling it out to no avail and then turned to hacksaw, knowing I was completely destroying the cartridge and handle. So just realize you may be able to get the set screw out as I did years prior (replace spring/seal cheap) , but at some point the whole thing will corrode and you will have to do what I did. I recommend when new/replace put some watertight plug over the set screw hole and only hand tighten the bonnet with liberal plumbers grease (like an oil fiter). It was worth the hassle not to hire a plumber who wasted my time never giving me a quote . Ridiculous and glad I was able to overcome the corrosion myself and not pay a plumber who fails to follow through. Right now I am using the old split bonnet to hold the new cartridge in and have water back .... stopped the leak. Now wating for the two parts I destroyed fixing a Delta shower
Very informative
Thank you so much
Thanks!!
Thanks bro!!! Got the job done today because of this video.
All the parts in this video are brand new and move easily... Getting old ones out and new parts back into an old install are much, much, much harder.
thank you!!!!!!!!!
Very helpful, not only doing the job but also in identifying which cartridge to use. Thanks!
Good job and video
What size is the Allen wrench?
What’s the Allen key you’re supposed to use? I’m trying 2.0/2.5/3.0 and nothing is working… Or.. has it worked and I just need to pull the faucet off? Bit of a newbie here.. is there anything that could be stopping it?
What size allen wrench should I be using? I've gone through half my set and I gets get the handle off. X_x
What size is the Allen wrench? I've tried a number of sizes including Metric & none seem to work! HELP!
Yeah right!!! Wish it was that easy. Delta needs to make a puller tool like Moen.
The video is incomplete. I got the cartridge recommended in the video for an older faucet, it was not correct my shower has 3 holes in the back not 2. So, had to go to the store for a different, shorter cartridge RP46463 so check before you buy.
Please help me is this faucet has built in shut off valve so do not have to shut off whole building water.
Look easy but in old cartridge!!🙄🥴🪐🪐🪐😥
I have Delta too but I can't find any screw on the handle...I look carefully but they are 2 screws to hold the back plate...how do I take off the handle?
I'm having low water pressure, is it a cartridge problem? Anybody know if this is the problem I'm having?
I think I have my leaking shower is of the 13/14 type. I want to take the handle off to check the colour for sure. Do anybody know what size of key we need. The hole is under the handle. I cannot get a good look inside and don't want to strip the screw. Thanks.
Does the water really need to be shut off? If I remove the cartridge will the water come spraying out?
The water not coming if one side hot or gold is connected. Why. Or need to connect borh
What would you do if the nut breaks off? First step this happened. Now the handle won’t come off.
Hahahaha! Yeah it's easy with a brand new never used shower like he had! After 25 years of corrosion and the bonnet nut seizing up be ready to have to carefully cut the bonnet nut off with a hacksaw blade or dremmel and HOPE the cartridge just pulls out. I got a replacement bonnet nut on Amazon for about $7 and ordered 2 cause I have another shower with the same fixture. Only a matter of time till it goes. If you try to force that stuck bonnet nut off you will surely mess up your entire fixture and plumbing. My cartridge was stuck and came out in pieces! Make sure to use silicone lube when you replace the bonnet nut. A little on the sides of the cartridge that touches the housing would not hurt either. And silicone lube on the O rings too. You will surely remember if you ever had to replace this stupid cartridge! So done with Delta.

My gray front part and the rear white part became separated and the white part is stuck inside.
can you just change out the seats and springs on a 1400 Series, instead of replacing the whole cartridge?
As long as there isn't corrosion, and your cartridge comes out in a piece.
my cartridge isn't locking all the way into place
As a last resort, if the cartridge will not come out, what can be done? I watch the video at about 9am and began the task. It is now 4pm and the cartridge is still inside the housing. It will NOT budge, wiggle, loosen, etc. Yes, I did the water and vinegar soak for 2 hours. Doesn't budge. I see other on here who destroyed the cartridge to get it out. That scares me that I might destroy the housing along with it, turning a $200 plumbing job into a $1000 job. DOES ANYONE HAVE A WAY TO REMOVE A REALLY STUCK CARTRIDGE WITHOUT DESTROYING THE HOUSING IT IS INSIDE OF? HELP!
What if you can’t budge the valve cartridge? My shower is 18 years old. Easy job if you have a new shower like the video
The hardest part is removing the handle. It always rusts in place.
Imagine if Delta actually put the part number on the part somewhere.
Ok the hole on the handle was clogged. After spraying it with CLR and the jet stream from the shower head, the 1/8" hex key found the hex screw. Spray some lube into the hole should be able to remove the handle soon. Usually dissembling is the difficult part especially for a 22 years old item. Thanks.
First 2 steps are the most important : close the main water line and cover the drain.😂
My bonet nut 1:42 is so stuck with 20y old hard water and rust, that the whole enclosure seems to be turning or worse bending. Any recommendation? Tried WD40 and tapping, no luck

I had double-sided tape and that did the trick. Your mileage might vary.
Imagine if Delta actually made a part that lasted longer than a few months. But can't make money if you're not selling parts.
Any ideas on how to get out the very stuck set screw?
@tombyrne6433

Try drilling then when that fails hacksaw
Ha Ha! Yeah right... couldn't even get the handle off. Hex screw loosened, handle wouldn't budge. Tried to call Delta, they said my wait time was 38 minutes... nope. Other videos said use a hack saw, or once its fixed just don't buy more Delta products. Thanks for the video on how to change a pre loosened, brand new cartridge...
Geezus, I can't even get the set screw off due to calcium deposits from 15 years.

After drilling out the seized set screw, the bonnett nut remained stuck.
Funny how these guys always do it on newer faucets. Try an older faucet and see if it's that easy
That works easy when everything is fairly new, once everything has been is service for years. None of this will work
It worked :) Thank you
It sure as hell wasn’t that easy the last time I did one of those.
Ummm when did we shut that water off?
I have the model similar to t series at 3:00. Problem I've encountered is the handle assembly does not pull out. The trim sleeve behind is will but not the handle assembly. I can't get passed this step.
All this sounds wonderful but is anyone having a major issue just removing the handle? My Allen key cannot even get a firm grip.
Doesn't take into account that the threads would be severely rusted and cannot unscrew with anything unless you break the pipe.
no explination on adjusting factory setting for more water settings for hot water....🤔
Put silicone grease on those o rings!
Why don’t you explain how to remove the knob cover when it is seized on after 15 years of use. Hahahahaha.
👍 ❤🇺🇸
Now show me how to get a cartridge out 15 years old with hard water in the home
Forgot to add a laugh track at 1:52 it's never that easy
"Grab the cartridge firmly and wiggle it as you pull it out", then proceeds to do so, with plumbing that has never actually been used. If the cartridge has been in place for 15 years in a hard water area, the process is more like: Yank, pry, pull. Soak with vinegar to dissolve deposits. Repeat endlessly. Soak overnight with wd40. Yank, pry, pull. Watch videos of KZreadrs who are doing the same thing with stuck cartridges. Sigh of relief when you realize that your situation is normal. Sigh of frustration when you realize that this could take days. Break cartridge during the many removal attempts. Read all comments in all videos to get ideas on how to get this out without destroying the rough-in plumbing. Try various suggested tactics. End up using a drill, dremel, needle-nose pliers, and other tools to shred the cartridge into confetti sized pieces. **Success after 2 days!!** However the video was good, and gets a thumbs up!

Return the Delta faucet to the store, other brands are waiting for you. Keep apart from this brand. The old cartridge is better than the new one.

This video is so ridiculous your in a showcase room replacing a new cartridge on a new faucet in perfect land lol. I had to stick a nail on the broken peice of the cartridge. Whilst sitting in the tub, legs and feet pressed on the wall pull on it with pliers. After 3 hours I got it out never again. I work as a maintenance super and they dont pay me enough to deal with that from now on i call a plumber f that they got the money. You also need to be careful not to damage the inside of the pipe where the cartridge sits as your trying to do a MacGyver removing the old cartridge from the jaws of life
