    This video really helped, Thank you! I replaced my belts (found them on Amazon) and now both decks work beautifully! A couple of caveats on the video - there are a couple of places where key actions are happening "not quite in view" of the camera. Also fast forwarding was used just a bit too much, in an effort to cut back on redundant steps and unnecessary detail, but a little necessary detail was lost in the editing. Also I agree with a comment from 4 years ago that the motor can be pried a little back allowing you to slip the belt in where it needs to be. I just couldn't get the doors off the decks, so scrolling through the comments showed me I wasn't the only one, and other viewers had found this work-around. I also had viewed videos for other models, which were a bit easier a repair job. But I was glad to find this one specific to my model. I suggest taking pictures as you go, so you remember all the wires and ribbons that need to be plugged back in, and where.

    It was noted below by Phil Landers as well, but just to refresh the comment, it is not necessary to take the front panel off. A slight bend outward of the motor will allow just enough room to slide the belt past the third leg. It looks like the motor is held by three legs with associated screws, but there are really only two screws. Look very closely with a magnifying glass if necessary. This allows you to skip from :55 into the video to 3:45. Much faster and less room for breakage, lost screws, broken wires etc.

    Bought one on FB Marketplace. I think the guy thought he was pulling one over on me but I saw this video beforehand and counted on replacing the belts. Of course, the rewind did not work properly on either side which be neglected to mention, but it did play fine, so I was able to get it back to working condition with new belts! Also had to adjust the speed on one side and found another video for that. 2:19 I love how this part was skipped through. LOL I put a pry tool in the top and gently pushed outward and it came right out without damaging anything.

    I always lay my work out on a soft towel to avoid scratching the front of the panel. But that's just me. It also keeps the small screws in place and keeps them from rolling off the bench.

    I just bought one of these at a thrift store in Winnemucca, Nevada for $5. All I've done with it so far is plug it in to see that the display lights up, and also I had a look at the heads and pinch rollers (all looked clean). Should be fun to play with!

    Thanks! Just repaired a TC-WE635! Get some alcohol ready to wipe the heads. Don't force anything - the eject mechanism has a small pin that flies off - never going to see that again. Don't wind the pulleys once the belts sit ok. Don't rush disassembly or reassembly - I ended up with a spare screw! Typical!

    Well I found this site and was able to replace the belts...yeah the drive belts were toast! But I got the new belts in...did a bench test and the tape begins to play then shuts off...both decks...same thing. That's an electrical glitch. Any ideas where I might look? It's already diminishing return, but if it's something simply I would like to keep this deck. Crisis diverted! My bench test was without the cover attached. So I decided to give up the ghost and button it up to put back in the box for a TBD. I put the cover on and just out of curiosity tried to play a tape again...Low and behold it played!!! YAY...So it apparently needed the cover to complete the ground on the unit...go figure...but I'm happy. Thanks

    That's exactly what I just did...have the exact same sony model and just replaced the belts on both sides - working great. One thing, just put the small band on first then slide the large one sideways past the motor and it's easy to thread it on there...so glad I didn't have to pull the whole thing apart!! Got the bands at the local electronic shop - $25 for two sets.

    So the Fast Foward /rewind mechanism uses a different belt from the ‘play’ mode? I can fast forward/rewind no problem, but when I ‘play’ a cassette, only 1 one side of the cassette turns, and if I let it go, the tape will jumble up and eventually jam.

    I have a Sony TC-WE625 dual cassette deck and out of nowhere BOTH cassette players stopped working; they both sound like they are trying to play, forward, rewind, etc. but nothing happens. Does this sound like a Recorder Belt issue OR something else? My guess is that it is NOT related to the belt because both drives are experiencing the same issue. Thanks in advance for your help.

    I was just wondering if you have any tips on the cassette getting stuck and not ejecting fully

  • @shonebrooks

    @shonebrooks

    2 жыл бұрын

    I had this problem too. There's a little secondary armature/latch combo that engages with the primary eject armature. You can disengage it with a tiny flat-edge screw-driver if needed. But that won't solve the issue permanently. Instead, it resolves itself once you finish re-assembly and power it up. Assuming the new belts are properly seated and such, the motors play a role in correctly disengaging that second combo to allow the eject mechanism to work smoothly and properly. So don't panic if the deck won't/can't eject during re-assembly. Just finish it up and try it with the power on. At least that solve this issue for me.

    Для того чтоб поменять ремни, даже разбирать не надо, дело в том - там есть зазор, где установлен двигатель и если чуть отогнуть двигатель, получается щель в 2 миллиметра в которую продевается боком ремень

    After two years of non-use, both decks are doing the same thing. It will play, forward, or auto side change, for a few seconds then it will stop while the tape is being caught and pulled by the outer pulleys. (Left deck - left, right deck-right) Belt issue? I did clean everything within the decks with alcohol and still no changes.

  • @orbit1229
    @orbit1229 Жыл бұрын

    I do appreciate when people take the time to share knowledge but IMO this video turned a 5 minute job into a 45 minute job. If you need to replace these belts do not take your deck all the way apart like this. If you do you run the risk of causing more problems than you had to begin with. Remove the 5 screws to take off the cover and access the belts right behind the tape player. Put the thinner belt on first then the thicker one. To get the belt on the motor pulley, simply slide the belt between the motor and the plastic pin. Get the belts from eBay or Amazon for $14. Don't pay $180 to have this done unless you are useless with a screw driver.

    @@Nantawat_Kittiwarakul yeah there was no metal on the denon fly wheel. To be fair the denon actually sounds quite good, the mechanism is quite clunky but I suspect in blind listening it would hold up well.
