How to Repair HWH RV Slide Room
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Today I am back at the shop helping a friend and fellow RV creator @nomaddiaries3201 with their 2002 Rexhall Clipper. When they purchased the RV just months ago, the slide stopped working and they did the hard part of making and installing all new hoses. Unfortunately, leaks just start with the weak spots first and after the new hoses were installed, the slide never really worked correctly and bound up. I was asked to help and just figured the system needed to be bled and purged correctly, but soon found the front cylinder was leaking bad. After removing the ram, the seals were found to be brittle and falling aprart. While replacing the cylinder would be the best repair, HWH did not have them in stock and two cylinders would have been very expensive and still taken over a month to get. Luckily, I had found a local supplier a few years ago while repairing a Winnebago slide and was able to access that video for the information. So we did the next best thing and went back to Marting Fluid Seals in Phoenix and got seals to re-build the rams and install.
Here is the process and the parts were less than $40, but I did get extra just in case.

The Lone Ranger rides again! What a magnificent video of traveling family with issue with 'not a high end model bound for Sewell MotorCoach' , and you accept the challenge and set their world right on this issue and send them on their way. You're one of a kind James.

You are AMAZING!!! I doubt these people realize how lucky they are to find someone like you who can fix such a complicated issue on an old antiquated system such as this! Thanks for this educational video. It won't help me but i'm sure there are some rvers out there that will benefit.
i really enjoyed this video more than i thought i would, HWH could've made the access hole larger in the slide mechanism.
We have a rexhall, slightly different model. Had the hydro pistons rebuilt last year and our box is doing the same thing. I am call the guy Monday to have him check the sync and the length. Thank you so much for posting this and I know those folks were grateful
Good fix. Thank you for the lesson James. Happy trails!

Damn good job, James!! Great video, too!
I looked at this one for a few days and thought meh I don’t have slides. Thanks for always teaching me something useful on accident. HWH leveling jacks
I like things designed with KISS in mind. Nice job
Wow, a way friendlier introduction than what I experienced.

I googled mfp seals They have dist centers in several states. We are in fl and they have one in tampa. Added it to my contacts in case my dutch star needs a rebuild. Great vid
I really wish there were more hydraulic slide out system manufacturers other than HWH and now Lippert. It seems like HWH is always overworked and very expensive, who knows about the quality of Lippert slides. The opportunity is ripe for the taking
Very interesting -especially since we have a Newmar Dutch Star ⭐️ thank you for doing this video 😊
You're a hero. Love watching your videos
Nice job James 👍
James your a wealth of knowledge another job well done
My kind of video. I much prefer repair videos. I've seen enough roof inspection videos to last a lifetime 🙃.
My 2003 has hwh, thanks for the education!
Nice rebuild! HWH never heard of hydraulic flow divider combiner valve?
Good job 👏

Can you do one on camper jack corner repair
James, Just for info, that sliding sleeve on the cylinder rod is a mechanical stop to prevent the cylinder rod from extending to far. The rod is supported by the seals on the end and the seals in the 'head' you removed. That sleeve provides about 12"-16" space between the seals otherwise you'd only have maybe and inch or two between the seals allowing the inner rod to become out of line with the outer cylinder tube, putting more pressure on the seals causing them to leak. Good that you rebuilt both rams however they should have had the synchronizing cylinder rebuilt as well. Chances are high that it is going to fail down the road and possible cause more serious problems. I can attest to that. I had the seals on my sync cyl fail and it allowed my slide to only make one of the rams operate, causing the slide to come in crooked and twist (front slide with a raised floor) . It got bound up where I couldn't extend or retract the slide and couldn't even drive it anywhere for repairs. It even bowed the side wall pulling the floor away from the side. Fortunately this happened in our driveway and we had just returned from a trip where we spend a weekend in Death Valley .... 250 miles from nowhere ! Thank god we made it back to Florida before this had happened. Long story short we finally were able to manually jack the slide around to get it pushed back in and up to an old Monaco Service Center in Central Fla to get it repaired. I was able to get the rams & sych Cyl repaired for about $115 each. In the end I had about a $9,000 bill. About a moth later I started having a leak in one of the cyls on the other front slide start leaking but I caught it before any damage occurred. Lesson learned is if one seal leaks replace all of them in the system. This was in a 2005 45 ft Monaco Executive. Great video showing how everything works. BTW, bleeding the air out of that sync cyl takes a special procedure as it's a blind end cylinder with fluid in both side of the ram seal that's in the center.

James thank you for this video, well done, your videos rock! (great video work by the way) I am unlucky to own a 2006/2007 Thor Mandalay that has 4 slides + leveling jacks + generator all HWH. Timing is everything I have a bedroom slide that wont retract, and yup a HWH cylinder is leaking badly. As I have 3 mores slides, generator ram and jacks (hopefully not welded) to be repaired next. I will call contact Martin Fluid Seals to find the ones I require. Question, I cannot find any info on the HWH website about seal sizes for a given HWH cylinder part number, how did you get the right sized seals from Martin Fluid? Your ability to work with one hand while videoing with your free hand is a gift, thank you.

Nice job, nice video. What would the cost be to repair seals?
james what do you charge for a job like that great vid as always
Clutch repair job, extra interior space is nice, prefer non slide.
James, You are a hero again! Question, is the baby powder something that should be done?
@AZExpert

There are 3 different types of rubber seals and I do not trust or like conditioner, I wanted to ensure the slide didn't rip the sidewall completely and the powder is what the factories use when they are made and it lubricates the seal too without leaving an oily mess.
James, I know you are crazy busy but I would so like to hire you to trouble shoot a couple issues on my 2000 Beaver Marquis. I'm in Arizona through March, is there any possibility? Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Great video thanks for the wonderful information. I have the same issue I think with a 2005 Monaco. How can I contact you? What’s the best way to reach out to you? Thank You in advance!
Tell your customers to walk around the vehicles before driving after work. Just saying for a friend 😊
I have a Rexhall Roseair and have an tip in/tip out issue. When the slide out is out the right side of the slide is not sealing on the upper part of the slide out (closest to the driver seat). I can't figure out how to adjust that tip in/tip out. My system is nearly identical to this one. Can you either explain how to or point me in a direction where to find this information? Thank you
What are your thoughts on running a bottle of Lucas rack and pinion or Lucas transmission fix in the hydrolic system? It would help rejuvenate all the seals etc?

I have little faith in any oil additives, they can claim anything in a lab and then claim ignorance after it was outside a lab.

@@AZExpert I was asking because my f350 steering box leaked really bad. I put in fresh ATF with Lucas rack and pion and she hasn't leaked in 15 years. It's not quite a hydrolic system but close. Thanks for the response.
James what silicon coating would you recommend for a filon roof

Hello James! I have sprung a leak along the top of the passenger window in my 2000 Class A Four Winds Infinity! It's been raining nonstop here in Florida for 24 hours and is supposed to rain all day again today. Since I obviously can't pop out the window and change the butyl today, do you have any recommendations for a quick fix until I can? Thanks in advance!!!!

My 2001 Winnebago Class C looks like it has the same HWH slideout system. Do the slide rails themselves need any lubrication? It looks like the previous owner had coated them with white lithium grease
