How to repair fix SWR 2x10c Bass Guitar amplifier amp D-lab electronics

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This SWR amp came into the shop with high distortion and power loss. Upon inspection a few issues were found before power up. I have to correct these first, then put the unit under test. This is part 1. The video was running too long for a wrap up. Part 2 will follow soon. Customer service for thee amps is actually Fender? Must be a sub division. For solid state, it's actually built well.

Thanks Terry. It was great to see some repairs being carried out on a transistor amplifier rather then the usual valve amps. Already I have gained some new things to look for when working on my solid state amps.

Thanks for doing the video on this great little amp! I have one from the pre Fender days that I had to rebuild the EQ (sliders were smashed in transit, otherwise the amp was solid). You are right though...current customer service is provided by Fender, as they bought SWR in 2003...prior to that, SWR was its own entity and built some of the best sounding bass amps on the market. These combos are absolutely bulletproof, and when paired with an 8 ohm extension cabinet they put out 400 watts RMS! I run mine with the SWR Workingman 1x15 under it, and it sounds *glorious*!

I see it's running MT-200 case outputs. The manufacturer that makes them has discontinued them. You might want to stock up and keep a stash of them handy.

Hi, your videos really inspire me. I am trying to repair a bass amp altho I have never attempted this. just got some basic electronics background.. the am is a US AMP brand, US 35B..i cant find the schematics, so ive reached out to other experienced amp repair techs and that has helped a little. .But what happens, or what do you do when you cant find the schematics?

Keep looking it's out there. Contact the manufacturer. Side bench that job until you have what you need and practice your repair skills in the meantime.

I want to use this amp as a head. Is there any problem with just using the extension speaker out? will I get the full range? I was told by the seller the combo out has 3 wires going out to the original speakers. any info would be highly appreciated. Thanks for this video very good quality info and video.

+Ben Cast My guess is either bad solder connections or a power supply issue. Is it blowing fuses?

well theres one soldered from ext. speaker out to the power 120v /220v in. In other words from power source main (IN) to power amp. Visually it doesnt look melted. The one that goes in the ext. socket over tjhe power main. input. That one was suspect, couldnt see in side of it at the wire it was completely clouded white. It looked powdery. But i replaced it and it still the same. Power to clip but not to speaker. And as i mentioned speaker works. My old peavey century 200 power module proved it, although the gain , pyramid, and gain2 (right side) are all glitching. YOU know cutting in and out but thats an other troubleshoot for later.

That is a solid state amp. More than likely, you have many bad solder connections on the PCBs

Probably, today i pressed all buttons on the amp and he was able to give audio from my guitar. It cracks a little when i turn some knobs. i tried to put my laptop in the input jack and play some music and it worked but it isn't able to produce bass tones i think. it cracks at some louder frequenties. You can switch between boost channel and normal channel and the sound from my guitar only works on the boost channel
