when dealing with aluminum wheels i use Low Temperature Aluminum Welding Rods that uses a propane torch to weld the damage then i will grind down to shape it then if needed i will go back over if still have any low areas left then a final sanding to shape and finish to what i want it to look like before finally painting it either in powder coat or normal high temp paint.

Now I want to see Victors car. Could that be a segment that you guys do, sort of like Hoonigans Build Breakdown. Where the staff and friends show off their cars and talk about what has been done and why? I would love that content. I have been dying to see Ricky's RX-7 in depth, that slammed Datsun pickup I saw once upon a time, and definitely Mickey's SiR in depth, that was high school me's dream car! Not to mention it would be awesome to look at the Porsche collection.

Hey man I really love the process you did very informative as well. I actually went to school and got certified for wheel repair/paint. The ONLY thing we did differently was use “steal stick” as a filler instead of bondo. Just because it’s less likely to crack or chip off like bondo and it’s same process for dry, sand, then prime. Other than that absolutely amazing man!

I had original Benz rims on my '03 C230 and rusty calipers to deal with. I also used the VHT high heat paint for my calipers while using Duplicolor paints (black chrome on final). I was able to wire wheel and Dremel most of the rust of the rotors and seal with Loctite Extend Rust Neutralizer before using two types of primer (1 Krylon dark, 1 light self etching). I think the hardest part of doing wheels is waiting for the drying so I moved between little tasks like refinishing the original bolts to match the rims. I wheel say, I haven't the tools of garage space you have so I am bit envious of your wealth ;) My neighbors wanna kill me for making so much noise and spray painting all day.

Excellent video! You really put effort on this one explaining every detail of the process. I’ve been gathering information about wheel repair lately. I want to take on my set of wheels, repair them and change color from silver to black, the only thing is that I want a polished lip finish, so what will be your approach in that matter? 2 or 3 of these wheels have several amounts of curb rash in the lip, should I get them welded or a metal based filled will do the job? Hope I made a good case point here. Cheers!

i repaired and painted my own rims before. I followed all the steps, made sure everything was clean and wiped down. I applied the proper etching primer to bare metal. Primed and painted everything properly. But as soon as new tires are put on, the new paint around the lips get scratched immediately from the stiff side walls of the tires. The tire shop said that on low profile and stiff side wall tires, the paint must be baked using paint with built in hardner. Regular spray can paint jobs are not ideal for stiff side wall tires.

Keeping it with the same theme of painting, I was thinking a follow up video could show how to paint valve covers, calipers, or even interior plastic trim to make a vehicle transform completely. For instance like a tan plastic interior prepped and painted gray, black or even a white color would be unique. Great job on the wheels by the way!👍🏻
