I had a couple of portable AM/FM radios with broken antennas. I found a place online that sold me two antennas for about $7.00. It took less time to replace the bad ones with new ones than it took to watch this video.

Really dont need the dreadful music.

I round out the ends with an awl and inserted a piece of soldier,.....soldiered the pieces together from the inside.

I ended up soldering from the inside per Cooper Dog's suggestion (look up a plumbing video on how to solder copper pipe) but this video got me to that suggestion and now my theremin is back in action, saved a little bit, did not create waste plus I learned how those antennas stay together. We will see how strong it is but I'll likely be gentle with it. Thanks for the video!

my problem is that i have a old telesopic magnet tipped tool to help pivk stuff up in tight places but the tip of the 4th pipe section has expanded so now when one expands the tool it cones apart.. was hoping tgis video would help figur out a way to tighten the tip of that section again.. but the pipe is much thicker then the part you tightened and my wire cutters can't open enough to get the pipe tip down to the little hole on mt cutters.. so rotating the pipe for me just makes it squeeze the sides of it without managing to shrinkbthe opening at all... need a different way to do it.. the pipe is 7mm across . no idea how to restore it..

Nice video but when you reassembled the antenna you put all the brass rod retainers the wrong way round, this means there is very little of the rod retained within the next rod and the antenna will be weak.

Q U E S T I O N - Do the "rabbit ear" -- AKA "rod antennas" -- MUST be connected to a (wire from the motherboard) OR radio antennas work via the several-foot length to improve some stations on FM and SW/LW but not AM...and that it's the metal rod that's meant to improve reception and need not be connected to any wire (white) in the radio? Thanks for the video. Does the rod antenna's base connect to a wire from the motherboard? Is it the white wire that's soldered to the motherboard and the opposite end is loose? Or, is it true that the rod antenna (for FM and SW reception, but not for AM reception) need NOT be connected to any wire...from the motherboard? Thanks for the video.

I have a DAB/FM Portable Digital radio that i use off the Mains & Externally with rechargeable Batteries, The Telescopic Aerial snapped off at the Base but I discovered if I cover the break/snap area still get decent Reception!, so I use rubber/plastic ear parts of earphones to cover the area.Discovered by putting finger over area by the way!.

Can't get an inner tube out. End is totally free, something is obstructing it's telescoping outward. Tempted to cut an inspection window at base. NOTE: not an RC antenna, an old National Panasonic R-310Y transistor AM/SW radio.

What holds the separate shaft pieces together during normal opening and closing operation? Ave you ever seen the shafts pull apart? Fix?

@@OmarTechTips I notice on the newer radios there is play in between the shafts when extended. Can the interface be tightened or is this ok? Particularly the Tecsun radios.

another Easy way to fix it is to.. cut a bicycle spoke according to original antenna length size and wrap it with any thickness of copper wire... then you can use it new antenna.

Does the tip unscrew?

Good video. HORRIBLE background music. Just turn it all the way off. Better yet, remove it completely then narrate and edit in a voiceover track. The picture quality is fine but the background music is like passing out at a bad dance club and waking up the next morning missing your wallet and underwear.
